I give McCain a C. He wasn't great, but he showed his knowledge of foreign policy over and over again. I give Obama a D. He had a good tone and generally sounded Presidential, but his lack of depth in foreign policy issues was painfully apparent. To me, where Obama really did horribly was with the Pakistan issue, but McCain didn't really take advantage about it. McCain should have looked at Obama, and asked him, "If President Zardari asks you not to attack, would you oblige."
I think he had to be a bit obnoxious at this point. Energize a flagging base now, or play catchup later. The latter did approach did Clinton in.
Pakistan was one of this best issues. It's been obvious that they're not going to cooperaate on terrorism...billions of dollars and no results...the same problems exists. they probably have one of the most corrupt governments..and they get a free pass
I would assume McCain would have to know how to say "Zardari" first. BTW, I completely disagree about the foreign policy part. Obama did very well on foregin policy.
well, pahhh kistan you know that right? Amercians say it wrong all the time. not Pack-istan so he's actually saying it more accurately than most americans
Unilaterally attacking within Pakistan against the will of the Pakistani government with growing dislike of America among the people could undermine the government and change our most consistent ally in the region into an enemy. McCain danced around this and danced around this, but never said it.
McCain's foreign policy, just as everyone suspects, is going to be a continuation of FAILED Bush foreign policy. The first debate confirmed that notion. Wake up People!!
This Nicole Wallace chick (McCain campaign head) on CNN is a joke.. she says Obama: "He continued to rail against the surge" --FALSE; McCain brought up the surge 10 times tonight, Obama spoke about leadership in the strategic use of military force to secure America, not use of military force to correct past mistakes that have nothing to do with American security. "unable to list a single item he would cut in a bipartisan budget to decrease spending" --Neither did McCain! "does not champion tax increases on the vast majority of Americans" --FALSE; Obama's tax plan cuts more taxes for more Americans than McCain by a country mile! LYING THROUGH THEIR TEETH
This was just another example of McCain diverting a question about an issue, and instead telling a story to confuse himself and everyone watching. Polls here in Colorado are showing Obama won debate numero uno.
