He would not have come here for $33 million. He was out of options and signed a lower contract because Morey didn't offer him a max. Do you not remember how his Philly stint ended lol?

Those teams had established stars already when he joined, unlike us. Also, it's not just personnel - when he didn't get his contract he wanted in Philly, he literally quit on the team. I'm just saying it was understandable why we wouldn't want that type of player on the roster. I personally could have gone either way with bringing him back.

Wait, huh??? Maybe in like 3-5 years you could say that, but now it's not even close!

I don’t think that our roster lacking a star would have changed anything. Harden was an MVP talent and MVP talents get some sway. He wasn’t that anymore.

Like I said, I didn’t want him back. But it had nothing to do with some fear of him having personnel decisions or that he wouldn’t be a good mentor/role model. While still very good, he’s declining and has had quite a few injuries after being an iron man for so long. And while I always thought how “bad” he was on defense in his prime was completely overblown, at this point his defense is….not good and I don’t think that would have meshed well with what we were/are trying to build.

I'm just not sure. I mean I agree with a lot of what you're saying in the second paragraph and I think the basketball fit would have been really good in the short-term until he declines further, I just get turned off by how he left here, BK and Philly in really close succession. Seems like he's never happy anywhere.

He's on a new contract, this has nothing to do with his Philly years, he resigned this off-season for a 2 year deal. He wasn't out of options, he chose to sign that contract to re-up with the Clippers. PG's gone, Kawhi's held together with duct tape. You don't think he'd play for us for 5 mil more with a young and upcoming team and a running mate like Sengun? You're rewriting history to suit your narrative.

Yeah I'm with you there. I've already got like 11 number 13 Jerseys too, I was planning on buying an Amen jersey this year but I can always add another Beard one, there's plenty of room in the wardrobe.

How is it possible to have almost 11,000 more posts than likes? You must really spew a lot of bullshit.

We didn't have cap space this offseason to sign him. I'm clearly talking about the 2023 offseason when we originally made the decision to go with FVV over Harden.

Only once in his career has Van Vleet had a eFG percentage higher than league average, and never had a TS% higher than .570, he's a chucker, slightly more effecient than Green but that is setting the bar very low. If Van Vleet would take nothing but 3's it would be ok, but anytime he goes inside the 3 point line he's ****ing awful.

You can't contend if you don't make the playoffs, this team is going to struggle to make the playoffs. If you want to determine who on your team helps you win in the playoffs, then making them is a good data point to have.

Harden is objectively better than FVV and its not even close.

On paper, this team is I think middle of the pack in the WC with Harden , talking about 4-7 seed.

    On Paper.

My only concern would have been that at the time he would have been coming to a bad team and its clear his motivation would have been just wanting to play in Houston and be closer to home and the nightlife here again and also the control he had over the franchise. But no one can predict if he would have caused drama. For all we know he would have been chill and just happy finishing his career here.

So, you take the risk. I also don't believe the stuff about how he would stunt the growth of any player here. Players have developed playing with him (Maxey) and most players will tell you playing with HOF players makes them better just by practicing with them every day. This is why I was here for getting Harden and also for getting Durant when those rumors were up (but not for much) playing with all time great players will help your young players grow.

At the end of the day FVV is who he is, a journeyman PG who we are all hoping can be replaced by Reed in a season or two before he goes off to his next team.

Hi ChatGPT, go to Clutchfans.net and generate a typical overreaction post to last night's Rockets loss

    ChatGPT:
**Typical ClutchFans Overreaction Post to Last Night's Rockets Loss:**

_"That's it! Season’s already over. We gave **Fred VanVleet** all that money for THIS? Guy looks lost out there! And don't even get me started on **Dillon Brooks**—where was the defense we were promised? **KPJ** would've been better than this mess. At least he could shoot. **Ime Udoka** came here to build a culture, but right now all I see is chaos! No chemistry, no leadership, just a bunch of lost players on the floor. Trade everyone, burn it down, and let's start over. Even **Alperen Sengun** couldn't save this disaster. Is anyone even paying attention to what's happening out there? I'm already calling it: VanVleet might be the worst free-agent signing in franchise history."_ .

That's a bit of the tone you'd often see on the forum after a tough loss, where frustrations can hit maximum levels pretty quickly.

I'm just saying, I don't care about them but generally you'd have to post a LOT of trash to have that kind of ratio. Hell, most throwaway posts in a game thread will accumulate several likes. And you got 11,000 of them b****es with not a single person backing your weak takes. Are you sure you're a Rockets fan?
