You never have to take the open 3, but i do think u should be able to make them. The problem is that good defenses normally pack it in untily you prove that you can score outside. You also have to be able to score inside, regardless of how the defense is playing you. The rockets were doing a great job of this with Scolandry, Scola could post and Landry could finish while being defended well. As odd as it is when the defense figures out that you can score on them in the paint, even if they pack it in, they stop.
