thanks Rick, when some sucker tries to question your authority, you and your boy DMC kicked that dude back to Hollis. Rick the Ruler! thanks for The Show
so let me get your reasoning...making the playoffs is no different than missing the playoffs (if its jvg), but its a huge difference in advancing to the second round or losing in the 7th game of the first round? to say yao was impeded by jvg is backed up by what statistical fact. before jvg and after jvg yao's numbers and his disposition to dominate were far less...cant wait for the board to turn on rick when yao is not dominant next season as the answer here is that its always the coach's fault.
based on the fact that Yao did not passed the first round with JVG. based on the fact that Yao passed the first round without JVG. Statistically, 1 playoff win > 0 playoff win. Yup, it is huge difference for a team that haven't win a playoff for 12 years. Yao's (and TMAC's) best years were under JVG, yet he achieved nothing. As a No.1 pick of all, a unique player as Yao is, that was huge under-achievement, a chocker, and as big a loser as TMAC if Yao hadnt play for Rick. based on what fact ot stat that Yao has ever been dominant? When was Yao ever dominant in NBA? It was the other way around. He was dominated by Okur and Boozer. No dominant player achieved so little.
Making the playoffs was in reference to your claim of JVG "turning around a disastrous situation." Please do explain how missing the playoffs by a couple of games once Rudy got hurt to Gundy's team playing in the 1st round the next year is "turning around a disastrous situation." I really do want to know. Also please explain how never failing to reach the second round in subsequent years is "turning around a disastrous situation." It actually created a disastrous situation. Rockets became known as 1st round fodders. Also, you reallly dont think Rudy or Adelman could have taken the Rockets to the playoffs all the years Gundy was here? You really dont think Yao would be getting his numbers under them? Now for the other point. I dont even need to go to the second round argument. Both Gundy's and Adelman's Rockets played the Jazz in playoffs. back to back. a) Adelman's Rockets did not set some of the embarrassing records Gundy's team did. b) Adelman did not have home court advantage. Gundy did. c) Gundy's team was up 2-0 with HCA and blew it. All this without Yao. In his first year as a Rockets coach. While being with the team just one year while Gundy had been there for years. Oh, and then later on Adelman takes Rockets to the second round. Takes the eventual champions to 7 games, without home court advantage. Without McGrady. And Yao only available for half the series. To think of Gundy without Yao and McGrady? Oh boy.... I never claimed that. As I said, Yao would have been fine under any coach. To claim that Gundy was the reason for Yao developing is telling me there really arent any good examples.
"Yao is unstoppable" is as big a joke as Yao is dominant. The green fonts are for the jokes running on this site.
ZBOY....living with gundy hate....it does the soul good to acknowledge the good and let go of the bad...wow it was disastrous four years because they had missed the playoffs four straight years. it was disastorous because they invested so much in the core of francis, mobley, taylor, cato, norris, griffin, etc. it was disastorous because the team had no professionalism or discipline. the team van gundy took over lost posey and griffin and had no significant addition except jim jackson. the western conference was much tougher in that year. in van gundy's last year, game 3 was a disaster. yao was not truly healthy after missing so many games. rick's win over utah was a great victory. but the team van gundy lost to was a little better. i have said it over and over...rick is the best, but not to acknowledge what van gundy did here for yao (when his numbers skyrocketed and he became a dominant low post scorer) is just not looking at reality. but keep living on the hate and distorting of the real facts.
Nice distortion of the facts. Fact: Rudy did not have Yao Ming when they missed the playoff 4 straight years. Fact: Rudy's team were in payoff race when Yao came in as a rookie. Again, they lost the playoff spot in last few games when Larry Smith took over. The Fact that Gundy took this team from on the verge of playoff appaearance to year after year of 1st round exits..what does that say about your turning around of disastrous situation? Not much really. As for player releases and acquisitions, I will gladly walk that path. If you are going to give him credit for getting rid of the garbage role players, which I think he should, you better be ready to blame him for the garbage he kept bringing in from the Knicks and other places. As for him as a coach, I do not think he is a bad coach, just a one dimensional one. He was a very good defensive coach. He was good and better for Francis and Mobley than Rudy because he wanted discipline. However, the scenario changed a year later. The same does not apply to yao and McGrady. He caved in to McGrady's demands and never held him accountable. His displinarian approach stopped short at mcgrady because the team's offense depended so much on him and he did not want to alienate him. Also, with Yao and McGrady abroad, the expectations were higher, as it should be. When you have one of the top players in the league and one of the best centers in the game, you are expected to go deep in the playoffs, which he failed to do. And that is an indisputable fact. Yet another distortion of fact. Jazz were comptetive in Houston. Games in Utah were laughers. Also, do go back and look at the records set where no one other than Yao and McGrady were scoring. Records set in terms of offensive output of the team. The series was a disaster for the Yao-Ming era. Going in the series, Rockets were favorites. They supposedly had two of the best players in the team and also had home court advantage. Of course we know how that turned out. Let me put it this way. For all the "turning around of disastrous situation" and the "development of Yao Ming", what exactly did Gundy have to show for it? -First round playoff exits. -Yao Ming being dominated by Utah Jazz frontline. I guess not every coach in the NBA can groom a 7-6 center to be chewed up in the playoffs. It takes skillz.
I don't get why we can't praise both? Every coach thread turns into a rick vs jvg pissing thread. its ok to like both. People can blame coaches all they want but at the end of the day, its the players who play the game. They make the most money. A great coach doesn't mean a damn thing if he doesn't have enough talent.
Jeff was brought in to reel in Steve and Cat. He was a solid choice for that group of players. With this group, he'd be a poor choice. I think Rick is perfect for the guys we have, and we're lucky to have him. Unless we have more injury problems, next year, I fully expect us to be a top four team, maybe top two.
Milwaukee Bucks this season. In order for Morey to be able to say it...they had to make it less than the 400 minutes that Redd played and more than the 50 minutes that Tmac played. It is a pure BS made up statistic to help the ignorant masses feel better about this team. In truth, most of us on here don't need to hear that stuff, we know it was a good accomplishment to be 42-40 with such turmoil and Yao and Tmac being out. No need to make up stuff to make us feel better. DD
Let the guy breathe please, lol. you know, watching wallace last night, i wonder what the hell adelman was thinking? I mean, everytime he played, h played well and at that time, christie was going downhill. He does a good job of creating situations where players can develop, but as clyde said, he's very loyal to vets.
Yeah, but Wallace also has hearing trouble, and it might have made it more difficult for him to develop. No one ever doubted his athleticism, but it took him a long time to get where he is now..... He was not a cerebral player at all early in his career, just a hundred miles an hour and no idea what to do on the floor. DD
I'm just saying that when christie was down and he played, he played very well. When christie came back, wallace wouldn't play at all.
