Mihm makes $2.5 million, I think. More than the bi-annual exception Rockets gave to Barry. Given that, you likely would have to dig into a little less than half of the MLE to sign him, which means no Carl Landry. So... Carol Landry or a guy who was pretty much injured and a non factor most of last year (and this year)? God damn Morey for choosing Landry, eh?
it's not knee jerk reaction. this has been an issue for quite some time now. it is called the reality.
Did he re-sign with LA? I thought he chose to excercise his option and stay one more year. I don't think the team could have signed him outright. I would love for Morey to go after him though. DD
Questioning the trade of Steve Francis, Cuttino Mobley, and Kelvin Cato for T-Mac is silly. Not pursuing trades for the 2008-2009 version of T-Mac is dumb though.
This isn't moneyball, ******* this whining is annoying. Moneyball is what the A's do. Spend very little money on their players and find ways to win. There's a cap in basketball and and the Rockets are already past the luxery tax threshold. They haven't gotten a good backup center because there aren't many good ones. Plus, Deke was only good because he didn't even play til halfway through the season and had the freshest legs in the whole league.
But we've also been talking since the beginning of the season about how there isn't anyone clearly available with the resources we have to offer
Now we'll play the come back to reality game: Tell me why the Lakers would help the Rockets and why on earth would they want Luther Head or Francis? Lakers are already way over the luxury tax and Head's and Francis' piddly contracts won't make a dent to their deficit. Lakers have enough ball handling guards to offset Jordan Farmar's injury for a short period of time. Sasha V. will slide over to handle some of the PG duties. I highly doubt Mitch Kupchak is sitting in his chair thinking "If only we can somehow get Luther Head, our PG problem will be solved."
I'm not saying they will help the rox per se, but the guy sint even playing. He has 1yr at tendered amount of 2.5. The Lakers don't care about lux tax, they care about rings. Even if its not Mihm, it could be Turiaf at 4m. Francis and Head gives you that money. He's a guy that can play both spots. The redundancy of all 3 pfs with no flexibility is a problem. Hell channing frye is rotting on a portland team that is loaded with players at his spot. I'm just not understanding the holdup. Is he waiting for yao to miss 10 games and then teams pull their pants down and put the rubber on when they call about a deal?
It's an awesome deal, Leebigez. I don't understand why teams aren't lighting up morey's cell phone to trade their PFs for Head and Francis.
You ever even remotely thought about the other team's needs and why they would want to trade with the Rockets? Why would the Blazers trade with the Rockets? Why would the Lakers trade with the Rockets? What stupid GM would want to trade for Luther Head and Francis and trade away a viable big man (a highly sought after commodity in the NBA)? Is it worth getting Francis' expiring contract and a maddeningly inconsistent 4th year player to trade away a viable big man and therefore helping a rival team that we could face in the playoff (especially the ones mentioned here)? Do common joe schmoe fans really know more then NBA GMs?
And you would be a prime example of that. If you think a deal involving Head and Francis is on the same level as getting Pau Gasol, then you are truly clueless. But that has been known for years. ....tell me again how the Lakers/Grizzlies trade of Kwame (not the hype over substance/knows little but talks alot poster) Brown/Pau Gasol deal would be on the same level as a trade involving Head and Francis. Their 4 million dollar contracts combined will help the Lakers who are over the luxury tax by 8 million??? And the Lakers want to get the better end of trades, how will they one up the Rockets by trading for Head and Francis? Does not compute. Do the board a favor and think before you hit the reply button.
I'm not going into revisionist history, but let me ask, who can the rox least afford to lose, scola or Yao? It sounds harsh or a rehash of old news, but a backup center was more important than a backup 4. I'd be the firs to tell you I like landry a lot. This summer I was consistent in saying the rox need to offer landry a contract early and give him 7 days to take it, if he didn't, move on a get Mihm or Turiaf. I also thought or said that bringing in a guy like anderson, signing elson or ratliff should also be on the radar. Considering the fact that yao has missed the end of 2 season to injury and missed a total of 87 games in 3 yrs shouldve told the gm something. Everytime it was brought up about signing a backup to yao, he always maintained the 2nd unit is pretty effective. The game yao missed, adelman said he wish he had someone over 6'6. Now what does that say? Adelman has been in the game awhile and has always had some size. Whether it was cooper on portlands bench or pollard in sacramento. He knows the importance of haing big guys on the bench. Instead the rox chose to sign barry and keep head, hayes and draft dorsey. Elson signed with the bucks for 1.3 m and anderson signed the vets min.
Its trading 1 bench player for another. The kings traded hedo to the spurs while both were contenders. It happens. How you think Barbosa got to phoenix? I'm just saying that whether its by another team or d-league, they need size. Yao at the end of last yr while rehab said the team was too small. I mean there are guys out there that can be had because their not playing or is caught in a numbers game. Frye,Mihm, and elson are a few. Williams in nj is another. Its all about 2 teams feeling good about a trade. Maybe after a long look, it doesn't seem that way, but to make a deal, that's what has to happen. The Rox have dealt with Sac town recently, what's wrong with Mikki Moore?
And Chris Mihm is supposed to address the loss of Yao better than Landry? Chris friggin Mihm? Mihm is just another big stiff... and injury-prone one at that. Your idea of injury insurance is a guy who missed the enitre 06/07 season and only played 23 games last season? Your idea for addressing the loss of Yao Ming is someone who played 45 minutes total this year? This is your idea of an impact player?
Actually you are right. There are actually GMs that think like you. Nevermind the fact I was telling you your example of trades that can happen is not on the same scale as what is being proposed here. I'm still waiting for an explanation of why the Lakers or any team with a decent backup C would want Luther Head and Steve Francis. (gotta admit, want it just for the pure comedy) Barbosa was traded on draft day. Hedo was traded in a 3 team trade that every player in that was wanted for the other team. You still haven't answered why other teams would want Luther Head and/or Francis.
I don't get it. What does moneyball have to do with not having a backup center? It's amazing how people would blame "moneyball" for whatever they don't like about the roster, when they don't even know how Morey makes his personnel decisions.
