    Jeff,

Thank you for the dedication you have shown over the last four years. Even though I don't like the result, I have never had any doubt about your heart.

You are a great coach. I wish you nothing but the best!

    My sentiment exactly.

How one treats one's weaker subordinates greatly reflects one's character. I might have respected JVG as a person despite my disliking of his coaching, but comment such as the one above ultimately was the straw that broke the camel's back.

Good luck to you Gundy to find another place to kiss up (likes of TMac) and kick down (plenty). You are not missed.

Since I doubt that JVG really cares much about what any bbs has to say, I guess I'll just throw this out into the ether...

There is no doubt JVG can coach 1/2 the game as good or better than any other coach. That is not a simple task, but defense doesn't get props from many fans.

If he improves on his offense (which could include outside assistance which is prob what he was unwilling to do here), he could be a great one.

Good luck JVG and thanks for the hard work.

He didn't turn them into a playoff team. They were already playoff-caliber before his first season even started.

If a player wants to complain and whine to the media about his role on the team, the coach has license to tease him publically about it. JVG was very complimentary towards Spanoulis before that incident, so without knowing their personal relationship its stupid to pass judgement.

How often do Phil Jackson or Greg Popovich joke about their players in public? Quit blowing that stuff out of proportion.

I didn't hate/love the guy but still sad to see him go.

    Good luck, JVG!

Maybe you can re-grow some of your hair back.

Did VSpan complain about his playing time publicly in any US news media? It was a solicited response from an interview conducted by his home paper, for pete's sake, and that's completely different from a classless joke by a snob like JVG who took pleasure in kicking a foreign rookie on the team while he was down.

You have taken his quote out of context. It was done in typical dry humor style. And if this is your only example, then I have tons more where he praises his players for their professionalism and hard work.

    Whatever.

I hate it when people call him a "great coach". What exactly makes him a great coach? He led one team to the finals in a strike shortened crappy-Eastern conference. Big whoop!

    R. Adleman has been to two Finals and one WCF so I guess he is a hall of famer.

Anyways, Gundy sucks and am glad he is gone.

Spanoulis was moody and grumbling about his playing time, irrespective of the comments he made to the Greek paper. The Greek interview was just adding fuel to what was already there, and put it out in the open.

And JVG's remarks were also solicited by the media. They were purposely goading him into making a joke about the Spanoulis situation, and he obliged. It seemed to me like he was trying to diffuse what could have been an uncomfortably tense situation by joking about it. There's nothing classless about that.
