Random story: I was a sophomore in college, and I was hanging out at a buddy's dorm. He had a hottie freshman neighbor that he wanted to get to know better. We go over, ask to go in and hang out, and he procedes to help her with some crafty thing that she was making for her mom. In walks the hottie neighbor's roommate who I think is even better looking, and has this really sexy deep south accent. I, not being particularly interested in crafts, follow the roommate into her bedroom, and we begin to talk. She's a smart girl, another freshman, chemical engineering major like myself, and was valedictorian of her country high school. We're really kinda hitting it off, I think. Then she says, "Man, I'm feening for some nicotine, will you hand me my purse?" I hand it to her and ask if she wants to go outside and smoke. She says, "Oh, I don't smoke," and pulls out a bag of Red Man chew. I never went from so turned on to so grossed out in my life. We ended up knowing each other pretty well, interned at the same company, even became friends, and I think she quit chewing, but she never looked the same to me. The hottie neighbor that my friend went to see? She was pregnant just a few weeks later and dropped out of school.
I love the stigma of chewing vs. smoking. I chew....I know, its gross....and it truly is at that, but no more so than smoking. (I'd love to quit, but I've got too much going on right now for that. Its my crutch, and I'll deal with it at some point, I'm sure.) Anyway: Chew doesn't make my hair stink (yes, I'm a guy; my hair is long), my clothes stink, my car stink, or my eyes water, and I can run without getting winded. Chewing and smoking can both cause mouth and throat cancer. At least with chew, your lungs are safe. Bottom line: I just find it curious that both are gross, but the one that's actually not as bad for you is the one that is less socially acceptable. Just thought I'd throw that out there.
I briefly dipped as a way to avoid smoking. Everyone smokes here so I found the act of spitting in public did well for my anti-social needs, but I found the cravings for nicotine were far worse and went back to French cigarettes. Maybe I can just settle for growing a mullet? Weslinder: Sorry, but I think I hot chick that chews Redman would be kind of a turn on. Just don't know how I'd feel about kissing her.
Clutch, every month we should start a new thread in this forum. In the thread the BBS nominates users that are annoying. After 3 days, we should make a poll with the most infamous posters. The poll winner will be banned. This will help the users nominated realize that they are not funny, just annoying....very annoying. I do realize this could cause some kids to act out for attention.
