This thread inspired me to pick up a 6 six pack at the local Wally World, I only got one just in case I did'nt like it, they had about 5 left. Pretty good stuff, I'm hooked, thanks OP.

edit: I'm enjoying my Shiner as I watch the Astros opener. Probably the only game I will watch this season thanks to those Comcast a-holes.

I finally did tonight, picked up a six pack. Plain shiner I like. This, I don't get it, in general so many recommended beers seem to always taste like "something", mango, grapefruit etc.

This one was a little too on the nose. "RUBY RED" bird.

Wait until it's 95 degrees outside then sit back and take a drink. That's its peak tasting period. Not everyone is a fan, but to me there isn't much better alcohol wise than this beer in the Summer.

Shiner is usually considered a premium beer, whereas a Budweiser or Miller Light is a domestic.

I like to crap on St.Arnold with a trenchant dose of effete east coast beer douchebaggery to put all of you mouthbreathing "70$ a six pack for Divine Reserve" clowns back in e - plus I'm an NW houston boy so I'm karbach - but I was pretty impressed by the "Endeavour" which I think is the DR 11. Congratulations, Houston's craft brewers are finally starting to step up to where they should be, really.

BTW I had it on draft at the Petrol Station - that is a fantastic bar by any standard. I was truly impressed. I grew up about a mile from there on W. 43rd and went to school down the street at St. Rose literally cannot believe that a beer bar that is that legitimate is in the old 'hood (as I recall correctly, the only bars around there when i was growing up where degenerate ****holes like Jim's corner where the stab wounds had more variety than the beer).

so it has nothing to do with where the beer originated from? interesting.

You would think it would, and I agree with you. If it is domestic then it should be at a domestic price; but a lot of restaurants put Shiner under the "premium" beer selection or even the import selection.

I have read online in the past that Shiner is considered an import everywhere but Shiner, Texas which is weird.

Yeah, Petrol is a great place for beer lovers but I can't go in there and drink, have to save room for the best burgers in town. It's like you cant have your cake and eat it to in that place.

Hopadillo is my mean stay IPA. I'm sure you can find some pale faced hipster that will give you $70.

Oh wow domestic doesn't mean what I thought it meant.

Came in to say this; such the perfect poolside potation.

And lulz at Texas beer haters, although my favorite brew city is probably Denver...

^oddly enough it was cold last night when I liked it on the 2nd try.

Guess I don't understand seasonal beers. If it's good, be good all year, Idc what the weather is (unless special ingredient availability?). I tasted the best shiner i ever had some time in the fall I think, & was happy about it until I was told that's it until next year- when I'll have forgotten about it among every new shiner I see in the fall (already forgot). & in the meantime I'm supposed to go back to (now devalued in comparison) plain shiner?

    #CONSISTENCY.

For the record I love regular Shiner. It's not mind-blowing by any means, but there's something to be said for the old familiar standbys.

I did too, better than this grapefruit shiner at its first taste in fact. But now after just a few days of ruby red, regular shiner somehow tastes kind of flat or bland by comparison. Idk what happened, but I blame longhornfan.
