One of my favorite Reggie moments was a game when he made a shot at the buzzer to beat the Bulls in old Chicago Stadium and he goes to midcourt and bows to the court. That was classic .
So, it sounds like a lot of people are really big Reggie Miller fans. I think he was a good player, but not a great player. A great shooter, but a good player. I heard a debate this morning, and some people had Reggie as a better SG than Drexler. My opinion was that Drexler was hands down better than Reggie. What do you guys think?
Hall of Famer? One of the best shooters ever, but is that enough? Didn't really bring anything else to the court, and no rings. Probably gets in, but you can argue against.
I agree, BullFan. He was great at what he did, but he was fairly one dimensional. He scored a lot of points, but he played 18 seasons. I'm not sure he better than Joe Dumars.
25,000 points. Great moments in NBA history. Leader in 3 pointers taken and made. Leader in 3 pointers made in the playoffs. He better get in.
Clyde was absolutely the better player. But Clyde was always quiet and didn't have Reggie's flash and charisma (and all those years of torturing Spike Lee and Knicks fans goes a long way for one's reputation), which is a big reason why people got the idea that Reggie was like the best SG aside from Jordan. I like Reggie a lot and I was sad to see him go, but he's definitely more of a great shooter than all-around player.
Did you know Robert Horry is only about 7 threes behind Reggie in this category? Big Shot Bob could pass him in these playoffs. Blew my mind when I saw that stat. Sorry... tangent.... I agree with someone else that said that Reggie is like Bird -- you hate him when you're playing against him because he's such a competitor, but you love what he brings to the game of basketball. For anyone that didn't see it, it was a great moment for him to leave the game. Down 8 with about 15 secs. to go, game stopped for free throws, Rick Carlisle makes a big show of taking Reggie out and the crowd gives him a standing O. Then Larry Brown called time out and brought his whole team out onto the court to applaud him. Stopped the action for quite a while. Reggie tears up and even gets a hug from one of the refs (Salvatore I think). It was a great send-off.
What?! Down 8 with 15 sec to go? He could've given them an 8 point lead in that time. I LOVE Reggie. Definitely my favourite non-Rocket. I just love the guy's spirit, his unorthodox form, and how he always manages to come up big in the playoffs. Definitely Hall Of Fame material.
I've always loved Reggies game...Just like the pic on Page 1, Reggie vs. NY was my favorite...Classic...
Did he give Reggie a T afterwards for touching him? He's a HoFer partly for his ability, which was plentiful, but mostly for the role he's played in NBA history and lore. Playing as a nemesis to the Bulls and the Knicks. Trash-talking with Spike Lee. The incredibly clutch play in the playoffs, especially in MSG. The 8 points in a blink of an eye. Even in playing in and being loyal to Indiana, which is die-hard for basketball but a small market. And, being as scrawny as he was just added to the whole tableau of unlikely hero (and villain). He provided a good half of the drama the NBA saw in the 90s.
It was a classic moment for the basketball fan. (I got choked up a little bit when Larry Brown called the time out. No, those weren't tears. Something flew in my eye.)
I thought the same thing. I was like, "Rick, what are you doing -- haven't you seen this guy play before?" I seriously was thinking that he shouldn't throw in the towel yet. Reggie didn't look like he had that in him though. He was getting hugs and such at half court while Rip was shooting the first FT. Rick must have seen that and decided it was time. JV, Reggie did look a little unsure about that ref hug.
I loved him. Sad to see him go. I was rooting for him to get a title, after the Rocks were knocked out.
You know, I wasn't even thinking about this when I flipped over occasionally to the game. I'm sorry I missed it.
Yeah, Reggie is a class act and stuck it out through the good and back times and never whinned or complained. He turned over the team to the younger guys and accepted a lesser role. Great guy, great player...the league needs more people like him. Hopefully he will come back for one more season. I am sure after thinking about it longer he will consider it. I used to roote for his teams with Rik Smits, Mark Jackson, the Davis boys, J. Rose and those guys to beat Jordan and the bulls. Those were great series between those Pacers teams and the bulls and knicks. I wish there were more series like those nowadays.
Absolutely one of the most beautiful scenes I have ever seen or even heard of in sports. Thanks Reggie and thanks to Indy for showing how it should be done. Much RESPECT.
