buy a pick in the 2nd and get jonas jerebko? stash him for a few years and then figure out he wouldn't make the rotation anyway!
some of you guys totally missed the point of this. the FO does a billion times more work than we EVER see. the point was to thank them for doing it, regardless of what happens, regardless of whether we like it or understand it at the moment. i trust them enough that if they dont make a deal, it was not for lack of effort, it was because there was no good deal to be made given our assets and needs. when CD was busy giving out terrible long term deals like a stranger gives out candy, I couldnt say that I had as much faith in similar situations. we need to keep in mind that the difference between no action whatsoever and trading away half the team can often come down to one team doing something unexpected, or one player sliding as we saw with rudy gay and nicolas batum. the best laid plans are not always going to work out, and thats the reason you say thank you ahead of time. its easy to say thank you if he goes out and gets us LeBron. its no less work at the end of draft day to end up with the same team you started with, all it takes is a few breaks either going your way or not to change the landscape of your franchise. whether the rockets end up with something or not, they didnt have a pick to start with in this draft, and we all knew that going in.
You could have thanked after they had a great playoff run or after they did so well without Yao. You could have thanked after they got Lowry you could have thanked after they made the playoffs or got out of the first round or after the draft if they did well. It was the stupidest time to thank them and you jinxed us!
again, those were times when it would have been an emotional note, not a rational one. the difference between competitors in any marketplace is whether your decisions are proactive or reactive. all the people in here screaming bloody murder that the rockets werent doing something "while everyone else got stronger" are probably the same people thinking Dallas was stupid when they traded Devin Harris for Jason Kidd. Quite simply, doing things "because everyone else is doing things" is not a good way to build a leadership position in any marketplace. it might actually be the worst reason to do anything. because it is motivated by emotion, not rationality. taking time to express gratitude that the rockets are committed to building a successful long-term, high-performing organization before there is an emotional knee-jerk to do so, in my opinion, is the time when it would mean the most, and be the most sincere.
Did you honestly and objectively feel we could've done something? Or would you be happy if we traded Brooks and Landry for Rubio just for the sake of getting into the lottery? Despite all the rumors, it's not like the Rockets really had a good shot at it in the first place.
You make sense and I am the irrational Old man! Also I think the Staff just pulled off another coup! I really Like Lull and I think Budinger has a shot to make this team. I can not understand why he dropped so far! As for Jermaine taylor I am not sold. But Morey has proved me wrong before. I think taylor is very athletic and very heady player going to the basket but he can't shoot. Perhaps he is a great defender or at least has that potential. Anyway I am very satisfied with the draft. And I will not talk about the things I am dissastified. I feel we got three players that have some potential equal to first round picks and I feel the staff again played it the right way picking players in the second round that can be signed to lesser contracts with team options as opposed to players options. Thanks Rockets and excuse my temporary insanity. It was a long day
Props to Morey. Although we couldn't get any lottery pick, we got 3 2nd round players who are all low risk, high potential type.
Three worthless picks....brings a big old .....MEH from me..... Unless there is a trade of some of these this was a lot of "Sound and fury, signifying nothing". DD
they have three more assets than they started the day with. call them nickels in a game of dollars, but they are assets nonetheless.
Exactly...and all we had to do was pay some money and give up a future second rounder to aquire them. I think Chase and Taylor have a chance to play in this league, Taylor was one of the top scorers in the country last year and Budinger was once looked at as a lottery pick as he has a nice skillset with altheticism. These guys give us the option to make packaged deals even nicer or if not have shots to crack our roster on cheap contracts
Unless they trade those assets for something, they will be worthless as far as winning this year. The only way they have value is if they get to play or someone else wants them....because right now, they are 2nd round picks and 90% of those are not in the league 2 years later. DD
The reason why most you guys are disappointed is last year we were able to draft Donte Greene, a lottery prospect, in the late first round (and we all know we turned that pick into Ron Artest). But getting three second players is not bad. In fact, considering that we had no picks to begin with, I'd say Morey did a very good job getting us some good players. We only have Von Wafer and Barry at shooting guard, so Morey went and got two shooting guards with good height and length. This was a very good draft night for us... It only appears modest because we have Morey as our GM.
I don't get it. Were you EXPECTING us to get someone in this draft who could contribute next year? Even if we were to make a trade for someone like Rubio or Harden, it's still a wash in term of next year because we'd be giving up the likes of Brooks and/or Landry. Draft by nature is for the future. You don't get the Artest/Landry/Brooks of today by not picking anyone in the first place.
this post needs to be in bold and stickied. i think peoples' expectations got a little out of control today. heh. anyway, well said.
