I dont agree with your skeptical opinion. Windandsea is just trying to provide us with info and insight on Ming. He always back up his info with a link. Instead of trying to be cynical, we should appreciate the effort of this guy.;)

In 1989, Chinese students held what was basically an anti-government protest in Tianamen Square in Bejing, China. Government forces including tanks and soldiers approached the peaceful demonstraters and fired into the crowd killing quite a few of the students.

One moment caught on film (both live and still) was a man standing in front of a series of Army tanks blocking their way. The tanks kept trying to go around him but the man would move from side to side to block their way. It is still one of the most poignant moments ever shown on television. I tear up just thinking about it.

What is referred to as the Tiananmen Square Massacre happened on June 4, 1989. I actually watched some of it live on television - I was awake and had CNN.

You can read more about it here...

Thanks windandsea not only for the information, the updates and the Yao Ming background, but also for giving us a small glimpse of your country and culture. It's nice to see that,if we leave governments out of the way,we're not evil demons but people, just people.

let's start the "Fly windandsea to Houston for Ming's 1st game" Fund!!!! you can contribute to clutchcity...if everyone drops a few bucks we can get a R/T ticket and fly him here for a week of games!!!

Azarde: you have aged us at Clutchcity. At first, I was like you must have really been asleep for the past 10 years, then I realized that you may have been in elementry school at the time of the event...I apologize for my momentary brainfart....
It was really something amazing that happened, but very tragic and heartfelt in the U.S. I remember watching CNN for a couple days straight watching there college kids and professors stand up to the military....these guys are heroes.....

    Hi, everybody,
I found two interesting articles. One said that Ming had to give up his water-polo career because he was so tall that he can stand on the pool. Isn¡¯t that good for a water-polo player who just walks around and shoot? Please see the full story at: http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport/hi/english/olympics2000/other_sports/newsid_931000/931340.stm

Another one said at 1997 Ming represented San Diego High school to attend a national High school league and helped this school to gain the third place at the league. I think this is a supportive article for ¡°Ming rocks¡±, because somebody said Ming cannot compete with even High school players. This is a Chinese article. But you can find the similar information at this English report.

Maybe I am the person who sat next to you at Tiananmen Square. Yesterday is the anniversary of June 4th Movement, and we met at Clutch¡¯s forum. It¡¯s amazing.

Thanks windandsea from a native Houstonian Chinese American. I loved the quote from Bill Duffy from the Ron Thomas article when he said Ming "is a better player than Rik Smits right now." If true, that's pretty awesome.

windandsea, have you traveled to many places outside of China? Would you be willing to make the trip to see Yao play? If so, I'll be glad to throw in a few dollars to the windand sea travelers fund! :)
