Brown doesn't doubt his ability, and his personal media assistant, Bill Little, tells everyone who will listen Brown must be a fine coach because Barry Switzer once said Brown was the best offensive coordinator he ever had. Switzer doesn't recall making that statement, saying this week Brown was a good offensive coordinator but not the best he had. Houston Chronicle 10/8/02
Oh gosh, EA Sports considers it a rivalry game, so that discounts everyone else's argument? A&M-UT and OU-UT will always be a big game whether it suits your argument or not.
My prediciton for Saturday? UT-31 OU-13 UT will wake up from the Olkahoma State doldrums and absolutely kick the Sooners' butts this weekend. So it shall be written, and so it shall be told. OU doesn't stand a chance.
i remember when texas tech used to consider us as their major "rivalry game." talk about a joke... i don't think we even acknowledged their existence back then. as for Baylor, maybe it has something to do with parent's weekend? who knows!
EA sports may consider that a rivalry game but I sure as heck don't. ATM and OU I consider as rivals. I'm sure other teams in our conference have UT circled, but that doesn't mean we're their rivals.
Kirk Bohls responded to my email today. I asked him why he thought it wasn't a must win, here is his response. a must-win how? so what happens if ut loses? they're not going to fire mack. mack's not going to fire greg davis. was it a must win last year? it's a huge game. that's all. kirk
If Mack Brown wants to win a conference title, he must beat OU (unless OU miraculously chokes in 2 games). If Mack Brown wants to win a national title, he may have to beat OU (either in the Fiesta Bowl or to control his own destiny). If Texas wants to be UNC then Mack doesn't need to beat OU.
I'm on your side here, Smokey, but devil's advocate, you're wrong about both of the above. Last year, we lost to OU, and had we beaten Colorado and then Miami in the Rose Bowl, we'd have been national champs. I agree there is no substitute for beating your rival and that OU this year IS a must-win, but I see Bohlsy's point. He's one of those types that thinks he's being pragmatic by rationalizing failure.
There's one more advantage for UT... the weather. Apparently, the cold front is supposed to come through earlier than expected, and they're now saying "early afternoon" in Dallas on Saturday. If it does, it's expected to drop temps about 20 degrees and have winds out of the north at about 25 mph. If it's pretty bad, that means even more reliance on the running game, and watching the Sooners try and run against a half-decent opponent is ugly.
Wouldn't want OU to have to play in weather they're used to. Do you not want to bet on the game, or what? We'll need to figure something out soon....
Griffin ran for 27 yards last year on 1.7 yards per carry. Even in 2000, with the best quarterback in the country to take heat off of the running game, he only got 87 yards. Spare me the six touchdowns... any player in the country could score that many touchdowns if they had the ball repeatedly given to them on the five yard line against a defense lacking intensity.
Has OU played in a big game with those weather conditions? Texas has already been through that, last November at Kyle Field. Of course I want to bet, I assumed we were doing a sig bet because you said DV backed out...
Official public Heisman vote: Maurice Clarett in the lead with 28.61%, followed by Seneca Wallace and Philip Rivers at about 11.7%. Chris Simms at 1.41% and Ced Benson at .7% just thought i'd share. imagine, a freshman in the lead!
Its just a little wind, they are big boys, they should all be able to take it. It's not like its the ice bowl or anything. you southerners make me laugh sometimes.
