I think UT will win, but only because OU's offense is so god-awful...and I look for this to be the final game that fully convinces me that Chris Simms struggles in big, important games. If he does well, and they win, I will have to back off that opinion a bit...at least until the next bowl game (which I would hope would be the national title game if they beat OU). Fortunately for UT, I think they can win this game even without Chris Simms performing well. I'll say: Texas -- 17 OU -- 9
It depends on Greg Davis: if he grows cajones between now and Saturday I say Texas 30 OU-10 If he doesn't: Texas 17 OU-3 Hybl is not good, and he wont have time to throw. I honestly think we can shut the Sooners out, but I'll give them points on a trick play or two. And your linebacking core is not better than last year, Calmus wasn't a Roy Williams type player, but he was special and a leader. Lehman is good, but a juco star cannot fully replace a player like Rocky. As for Williams, his absence will be noticeable throughout the entire game, and I expect Texas to be able to move the ball on OU and that is the difference between two good defenses: one has a better offense, being Texas. And in keeping in the good natured trash talking spirit here goes nothing: IT'S 1:51 A.M. AND.......
I am rooting for the Longhorns, but I think Stoops and the Oklahoma coaching staff has it all over Mack Brown and Greg Davis. I think the game will be a lot like last year with a less talented OU team winning 17-13. Or something like that.
Even if they beat OU, I wouldn't pencil UT in the MNC game yet. KSU, ISU, NU (at Lincoln) is gonna be tough. If they go 4-0 in the next 4 weeks, I think it would be almost as impressive as OU running the table in 2000.
Well, I think they could lose one of those three games, then win out, and still go to the Fiesta Bowl. They have to beat OU though.
OU-UT will decide the Big 12 South Champion. There is no way either team will drop 2 games needed to put the loser on Saturday in the championship game. Mack and Chris can silence a lot of critics with a win. A loss, however, UT would be still alive for a BCS bowl berth but the national title hopes would be slim. I still think to play in the Fiesta Bowl, teams must win their conference.
Brad Smith, the Missouri freshman quarterback from Youngstown, Ohio was able to hit numerous slant patterns in the seams of the OU zoned secondary. Hope the Horns staff caught that. These slants were also picked up by Major Applewhite who is now on the K*EYE team. I think he will be on the air Thursdays and Friday during the sports portion of the news. Major didn't seem to think the 5 wides would work that well against OU unless the Horns established a running game first. Prediction: After a long drive in the closing minutes, Dusty Mangum redeems himself - Horns by 3. Hook 'em!!!
Agreed. For a myriad of reasons, the most tangible of which is if OU beats UT, they likely run the table until the Fiesta. UT was lucky to get a second chance last year (which they blew), but if OU wins, watch out. The more talented team doesn't always win, does it?
Bingo. If you look at the possessions we used the five wide receivers against OSU, the place that was always open was that little curl route to the middle. OU had problems with almost that identical play against Mizzou. I think Stoops will have his guys thinking about it at the beginning of the game, so I wouldn't do it quickly, but I'd like to come at them with five wide receivers and a no huddle offense for a possession in the second quarter.
No.....Texas was more talented last year, probably is this year. The underdog has a great history in this game.
TX, 21-13 They've got to win eventually. But a sleeper conference loss to T.Tech, ISU, KState or Neb. may end the title run before it starts. Just a bad feeling.
The winner of the RRS can still afford to lose 1 game and get to the Fiesta.....if the loser can win out, any chance of seeing a rematch? This could happen if Tennessee beats Miami.....
