That was a pass the TE dropped. And the playcalling was conservative before Simms was the starter, and it will be the same conservative playcalling after Simms leaves. The only time we open up the offense is when we start trailing big, and by then, its usually too late.
Although I think of UT as my "adopted" university for college sports (in all things except hockey, which my college is actually great at), it's times like this that I'm glad I went to an Ivy League school. Boy, I'm sure my dad is pissed right now. I better not call him anytime soon... For the record, Griffin looked great. Simms did not. I've always thought he was overrated, anyway (and hindsight is NOT 20/20 here!). Let's see Mack weasel his way out of this one. Does Applewhite have any eligibility left?
The Longhorns football program, generally, Mack Brown and Chris Simms are the most overrated things since Iraq's "elite" Republican Guards.
When a WR is open, he shouldn't have to try to catch the ball before it hits the ground. He should be able to catch the ball in his hands, in position to get more yardage. Those passes weren't going to be 1st downs anyway, because Simms failed to put his WRs in a position to make a play after they do catch the ball.
I'm not a Texas fan so I can give you a view from the outside looking in, unbiased. Your offensive coordinator SUCKS! People dump on Chris Simms, I think he's a solid quarterback, and I've seen quarterbacks worse them him take worse teams to successful seasons. That coordinator's offensive scheme is so flat, boring and predictable I could probably get a few guys out there and get a couple of stops on Texas. That guy better come up with more wide ranging schemes and plays or he needs to be fired, bottomline. Texas is a solid offensive system away from being a legimate, and consistent national title contender. The only difference between Texas and Oklahoma is confidence in their offense late in games. Oklahoma has that confidence, Texas doesn't.
He should still have made that catch. But that's not focusing on the general point of my spiel. Our play calling is horrendously unimaginative. It doesn't matter who's QB, or RB, or whatever - we don't run ANY effective misdirection. Missouri gashed OU last week with counter play after counter play. Know how many counters Texas ran? None. We run into a brick wall, and then sit in third and long and tell our QB to pass into 8 men in coverage while the pocket is collapsing on top of him. We don't put our players in positions to win, we don't trust our players, any of them, to make plays. That's why we lost, and that's why Davis needs to go.
Puedl-Agreed about lack of counters/misdirection. OU has an aggresive D, like UT, and misdirection is the best way to counter fast, attacking defenses. OU carved UT up with misdirections and draws, but Mack/Greg Davis must not have wanted to copy OU's "idea" of running misdirections.
While there are a LOT of reasons Texas lost this game, Chris Simms did nothing to change my opinion of his ability to play big in big games. The interceptions don't really bother me. One of those definitely wasn't really his fault, and it can be argued that the one that flew up from BJ was not his fault. What convinced me that he is a big game choker were the key incompletions that he threw in the 3rd and 4th quarters. There were several situations where they were 2nd or 3rd and 6-9 yards or so, and he had an open man, saw the open man and fired a pass that just wasn't thrown well enough. Sometimes the receivers could have made a great catch to save the bad throw, but as highly as some tout Chris Simms, he needs to be making those throws. Today he didn't. Texas still could have won the game if their defense had been able to stop the run even the slightest bit, so you can't blame this on any one person...but my opinion of Chris Simms stands, the guy doesn't know how to step up in the games where everyone is watching.
Nice game horns. BK: Still think Harris is the most overrated player ever? I'm sure Simms and the O-line doesn't think so..... <MARQUEE BGCOLOR="DC143C" LOOP="infinite" >BOOMER SOONER!!!!!!</marquee>
I wonder if Hornfans.com will continue to make fun of Lehman's speed, and claim that Tommy Harris (who would have started for UT last year and this year) is overrated. I found a little bit of satisfaction seeing UT fans eat their own words. UT fans don't have to love OU, just shutup with the smack talk, if you are their b!tch. Yet, the original and vastly creative, "ou sucks" chant will always live on, just like Mack Brown's inability to win a game worth a damn.
LITTLE EMMITT KICKS ASS!!!!!!!! GO SOONERS!!!!!! 238 Yards???!!!! DAMN!! So much for UT's run defense! GO Sooners!!!!!! Wooohooo!!!!
Tulsa must have a better D, they held Griffin to only 237 yards. Astro: what should I make Dvauthrin's and Cat's sigs be?
Is Griffin a pro prospect? He really does look like Emmitt out there with the little scoots, turns, slides, slithers, and stuff. He's like water, finds even the smallest little hole.
And the playcalling was conservative before Simms was the starter, and it will be the same conservative playcalling after Simms leaves. The only time we open up the offense is when we start trailing big, and by then, its usually too late. This isn't true. We used to throw downfield all the time - early and late. We did it with Major and we did it (for 2 games or so) with Richard Walton. We threw deep and let receivers make great plays. We didn't set all sorts of UT passing records by playing conservative.
OK, I've had time to settle down. I'm here to give respect to where its due. OU outplayed and outcoached Texas, hands down. Yes, we all know that Greg Davis, Mack Brown, and Chris Simms played major factors in this extremely painful Longhorn loss. But credit Bob Stoops and his staff. From that final touchdown in the first half onwards, Stoops showed he was going to play more aggresively and play to win, rather than play not to lose. Davis has to go. Period. Brown and Davis didn't give Texas a chance to win. 1st down-run. 2nd down-run. 3rd down-pass. 4th down-punt. A bland, predictable, and unimaginative offensive playcall. Yes we all saw Simms not placing the ball properly for his receivers in the second half. However, I absolutely can't blame the defense. Sure we gave up an ungodly amount of yards to Griffen, but what do you expect when the defense was out there for a majority of the ballgame. Griffin roughed us up in the first half and deserves credit for outstanding play, along with the o-line. Go ahead Sooner fans and rejoice. You've earned it. Now if you'll pardon me, I'm going to cry for the rest of the weekend. I'm officially out.
Man, I dunno. Cat's should be something that degrades Cuttino, Collier, Mo, UT, and the Spurs, I guess.
Just like the original and vastly creative "Hook 'Em" hand sign done upside down. Thank you OU hillbillies for the $30 million donated to the Texas economy <B>yet</b> again.
And thank you texas tea-sippers for yet another win. Ah, it feels good. Want me to tell you how good? Can you remember how it feels?
