UT needs to not get wallymopped on the boards and be hitting from the outside. If they can do that, they'll be OK. But UT sucked rebounding in the 1st half vs. Stanford. If that continues, with the way Memphis gets offensive rebounds, this will get ugly. Guards also have to stay out of foul trouble - we've got zero backup guards that play. Three starters, and that's it. I think this is basically a toss-up game. UT has the experience/smarts advantage, Memphis has the size/athleticism advantage.
I agree. Unfortunately, I don't really care for any of the teams which are left, so I'll probably be pulling for Davidson to go all the way.
this game determines on who will be my ucla bruins next victim but in all seriousness I have texas winning by atleast 11. I don't think memphis is so great. And I think texas will make them look bad and the world will know memphis sucks
Memphis "sucks" huh? Some tossup. The only way Memphis loses is to choke and start taking a lot of unnecessary jumpers. Abrams may as well come out of the game. He's too easy for Memphis to guard and he cannot defend.
With eight minutes to go and down 16, you need to start fouling every possession and hope free throws doom Memphis. It's really the only opportunity.
10 free throws is far too small of a sample. Barnes should've started fouling at the 10 minute mark -- really, this is inexcusable.
The bottom line. Texas didn't have much of a chance today. They needed a very bad game from Memphis to win. CDR & Derrick Rose vs. Augstine & Abrams is a blowout. Abrams was a liability out there.
Still completely disagree. Augustin and Abrams played with the mentality and composure of 12-year-olds today. Absolutely embarrassing. Terrible decision making, terrible shooting, terrible basketball IQ. The shots they had available weren't really that different from the ones they normally take -- and make. They just missed them, and in some cases didn't take them. Officiating was awful too -- Augustin got thrown down every other possession it seemed. I know I'll get blasted, but I don't care. I still think Texas has the talent to beat this Memphis team 5 out of 10 times. They just picked an awful time to have the worst game I've ever seen them play (and no, many of the mistakes I'm referring to were completely unrelated to the opponent).
You are entitled to your opinion and won't get blasted for having it since most people here (myself included) would prefer UT over Memphis. But your opinion is wrong. Augustine and Abrams shot so bad because of Memphis' length. Abrams' shots were more contested than usual and he was never able to get a rhythm. Sure UT didn't play well but a lot of that was not having faced such a big, long, fast, athletic team. If Memphis plays like today, Texas would do well to beat them 1 out of 10 times. The talent & athleticism gap is too big.
Also, the way UT has played since the 3 minute mark -- cutting it from 20 to 14 by constant fouling, pressure defense and three-point shots around screens -- should've started at about the 10 minute mark. For the life of me, I have no clue why it took Rick Barnes this long to flip the desperation switch.
