Congrats to the Cougs...nice to see them on the uptick.....better clock management is needed though. DD
How is it a joke? UH beat an unranked team at home at moved up in the rankings. The only insane things about those rankings are Okie State in the top 15 and Boise in the top 5. Neither of those are anywhere close to correct. You guys should be ranked above Okie State and Boise shouldn't be higher than 10. I'd actually have UH ahead of Boise (and the Cowboys, obviously). Also, Georgia is probably getting some SEC loving being ranked where they are but as horrible as they've looked they have their upcoming schedule to prove where they belong. There are three teams in the top 15 that I'd expect you to beat: Boise, Okie State and Cincinnati. Top 12 wouldn't be an unwarranted ranking at this point. But remember, these rankings don't mean anything. The only ones you should care about are the ones at the end of the season. Just ask Tech. Teams will lose and the rankings will adjust accordingly.
AP Poll looks right to me. I thought they would end up 12. That's exactly how I had, but 4 5 6 might be mixed if I recall.
Coaches' rankings are used in the BCS formula, the AP is not. EDIT: I also forgot that LSU at 4 is a joke if you've seen any of their performances this year. It's just like when Ole Miss got into the top 5 based on their SEC-ness.
I wasn't talking specifically about UH, but the poll in general. Oregon put a shellacking on Cal and they are ranked 25? Okie St. ahead of UH? Iowa barely ahead of Ole Miss? Its sad these guys account for 1/3 of the BCS rankings.
That's probably true, but when you consider UF, UT, Bama and LSU are the only big time programs that are undefeated, the top 4 shouldn't be a surprise.
Yeah, I agree. The problem is the coaches don't get to watch the games before they vote. All they see is the final result.
Congrats. Always a pleasure to see Tech go down. The OSU win was excellent. But this Tech victory... I mean... Tech isn't very good this year.
Who would you put at #4/#5 right now? There's a big dropoff after the top 3 - but *someone* has to be in those spots, and I think it's probably better to put those teams than the one-loss USCs, VaTechs, etc of the world.
I know there is this place that shows you how the AP Pollster voted. I want to see how each person voted.
found it. http://hosted.ap.org/dynamic/extern...ball_rankings/voters.php?SITE=AP&SECTION=HOME edit. might be old?
In the AP poll Oregon is 16 and Cal is 24 down 18 from yesterday. That said Oregon didn't deserve to be unranked in the AP the past week and CAL didn't deserve to be 6.
my goodness, what a great game. I was dead tired throughout the game, since I was in line at 4 AM for wristbands (which was pointless, but whatever), and I didn't get a chance to sleep the entire day. It was a statement, even though we were 'supposed' to win. Its one of the biggest home games we've had in this era. I enjoyed rushing the field, complete jubilation. Cool to see some alums join in on the fun Case had an OK game, but the last drive he was very good. I wish he could have done better to solidify his Heisman candidacy.
Don't be fooled. Sumlin is no dummy. The refs started the clock before the chains moved and didn't call the timeout he was screaming for at the end of the half. He was furious.
I'm a little bitter about it since I lined up at 4AM to get one, and they still had them at 5PM (with no line). There were no riots, but it was really cool to see over 1,000 people lined up at 6AM. Some guy did light a Tech shirt on fire, but the cops made him put it out haha. Once they started giving wristbands out, the line moved really quickly. There were 6 scanners for the IDs and pretty smooth operation. I think the coolest thing from all that was that when all the students raised their paws in the air, we all had those yellow wristbands on, pretty neat visual effect and kinda a unifying thing. We all did have red on (for the most part) but the yellow wristband just looked kinda cool. I was annoyed because students were b*tching all week about how the school was being greedy and not allowing more students to go to the game, and yet, the student section and overflow didn't fill up until after the game started. Also, while its awesome that people care now, it sucks that I couldnt get my regular front row seat because people who have never been to games decided to show early to grab front row. Our usual group leads all the cheers and stuff, and so it was lame that most people there didn't know what we were doing because there were a lot of new people in the section and the 'regulars' were forced to go to random areas. But hey, good problem to have and we will just have to adjust I guess. I'm happy that more students and people care about UH now, I just hope we keep it going.
Here's the current one: http://pollspeak.com/pollstalker/pollstalker.php?r=F&s=9&p=18&w=5&t1=0&t2=0&v=0 Pretty cool site - you can see all the outliers, votes by team, by pollster, etc. There are some crazy votes in there. OU, in particular, is ranked all over the top 25. There's one seeming ACC fan that has VaTech at #2 and Miami/GaTech in the top 14.
