Great win for the UH program. Great game as well regardless if the implications. I think its a bit over-optimistic to think UH could leap into a power conference from 1 good upward surge in football. Thats the kind of goal setting they need to have to stay focused on the prize and keep improving ahead, can't fault them for thinking big. I think they need to do a little more to be too good for Conference USA. UH was in the initial running for the Big 12 and that gets them some leverage. TCU has done plenty conference jumping already, and half the teams from Conference USA have bailed it so why not UH. But picking on the Baylor is easy. Heck they can pick on Colorado as well. Doesnt automatically mean they're deserving, yet.
Tebow will be the next Vince Young. Which means he'll get a chance at QB, but the jury is still out on the results.
Uh, I'm a student there? Last time I checked the thread, thats all you need to do to become a fan of a College Football team.
That's your (probably correct) opinion. But for the Tech players competing on the field, I doubt they feel the same way.
I don't know --- I'm asking you guys. It just seems like QB's from high powered offenses at smaller universities (in terms of athletics) never pan out in the NFL (such as David Klingler). I know it's a lot harder to project college football athletes than other sports, but I'm curious as to what defining qualities scouts look for. Strong arm? Composure? Ability to read defenses? Successful audibles? Height? Etc.
Size and Arm Strength have more to do with it than School Program, unless you're talking about a gimmick offense like the Run-n-Shoot / Spread. Of course a guy like Jamarcus Russell may have the size and the arm strength, but not the other intangibles required to master the most challenging position in sports. I think you have to be able to adjust well to the speed of NFL defenses, which means making quick decisions and being able to predict what the defense does before the snap. Peyton Manning and Tom Brady have mastered this. A guy can overcome a relatively smaller stature if he possesses these qualities in spades. (Drew Brees). Remember that Ben Roethlisberger (Miami of Ohio), Phillip Rivers (NC State), and Eli Manning (Ole Miss) all came out of less than powerhouse schools.
He was saying that we were the ranked team and that usually field rushes happen when you upset a ranked opponent. But I would have rushed the field too if I was able to get tickets. We UH fans all deserve to have something to cheer for
I guess what I meant was that it wasn't like we were huge underdogs, so from that standpoint it seemed a bit odd to rush the field, but it was a great win for the program, so I don't have any problem with those who did rush the field. It was a great experience.
Thanks for being such a gracious loser. For crying out loud, you think UH played its best tonight? Our offense could not have been worse and we still rolled up a boat load of yardage. You Tech fans are real special. You talk a big game before the game and then blame everyone but the team that beat you for your defeat. We are a better football team, deal with it. Eat'em up Coogs!
Manning was the 1st pick in the draft and Brady was the 199th pick... and we've all seen how hit or miss Heisman winners can be in the NFL. There has to be some kind of mental drilling process implemented (other than taking the wonderlic) to gauge how a QB would handle a certain situation in real time. It just surprises me a guy can spend 5 years in college, dominating most of the time, and not have the smarts to make it work in the NFL. Because that's what it boils down to. To me, QB's are a lot like PG's. Being an outstanding athlete is a huge plus (Mike Vick, Steve Francis), but it doesn't translate into being a winner. I'd like to revolutionize the draft process and use the intangibles you find in guys like Jason Kidd, Tom Brady, Steve Nash (although being ambidextrous is his biggest asset IMO), Deron Williams, Payton Manning etc. to create an extensive mental testing process that weeds out the David Carr's from the beginning. I'm going to call it, the Alan Parsons Project.
I'm watching the last drive again and Chase will be special in the NFL. He's not a system QB, he's just cool as ice walking down the field. Dare I say, Tom Brady like.
