Honestly UT did average 39.2 ppg last year, but Bo was a piece of the puzzle. He's Chris's second best friend and his security blanket. As fragile as Chris' mindset is, I think Bo {b]possibly[/b] being out the whole year will hurt. UT is loaded with blue chippers at every position except TE.

You gotta think , part ofthe reason Ut was explosive was becuz of Bo.

Benson could be replaced with Young or Ivan; Roy could be replaced with Timmons or Jeffrey or Carter; who is a suitable replacement at TE? Edwards? Stevens? I don't know. Thomas is too thin.

But, if Simms is as good as some say he is, this may be a moot point. With those wr's, who needs a TE? I guess......

I think Artie Ellis is supposed to be back with the horns this season. He told me that he was, but I never heard anything about him in spring training. If he does return that will give them another recieving threat at tight end.

I wish that Artie would return, but he has already enlisted in the Marines. I heard that in high school people thought he was going to the NFL.

Is Young going to be redshirted?

I'm changing the thread title to reflect the fact that Scaife's injury hasn't been diagnosed and no one knows how long he'll be out.

I'm hoping against hope he just wrenched it, or he's got some minor fluid buildup or something.

Young will definitely redshirt. He has stated that's his preference, and with Mock and Nordgren backing up Simms, Young won't see the field anyway.

    One other thing:

Anything you read on hornfans.com, you should give credence to.

Anything you read on longhornfanzone.com, you should take with a shaker of salt.

It's like clutchcity.net compared to The Rocket Guy.

Bob from Longhornfanzone.com is the equivalent of the Rockets Guy.

Hornfans.com is a good site, but it is run by a bunch of myopic, burnt orange nazis. That place is one big Chris Simms circle jerk, where nobody can speak out. I was banned for calling Simms a nutless coward after the Big 12 championship.

I just want to know what's going to happen with the QB situation over the next few years.
I hear Young is redshirting and I also hear that the nation's #1 HS QB is strongly interested in UT as well.

So, is Mock going to play at all this year? Is he going to battle with Young for starting next year? What about Nordgren? I personally think Simms is way overrated and would like to see Mock get some significant minutes, but who knows?

And you think that's acceptable behavior for a Texas fan? Calling one of our own players a "nutless coward"...?

You definitely deserved to be banned for that, especially in light of hornfans.com's TOS. They spell out very clearly that personal attacks on Texas players are not tolerated. You have no one to blame but yourself for being banned.

I see no problem with it....many people have called Rocket players much worse here -- Kelvin Cato, Scottie Pippen, Hakeem, just to name a few. No one would ever think to ban them from the site though.

But if it's in their TOS, it's in their TOS...

I was warned after I posted "Simms never earned the starting job."

Most of the posters live in fantasy land. If you criticize a player or coach (no personal attacks), you get flamed and called out. I understand the TOS - these are college kids that don't deserve to be personally berated on a BBS.

Its okay to type: Nice pass Chris!

Its not okay to type: Will Chris ever learn to pass to his 3rd or 4th receiver?

Its okay to type: I got drunk and ****** some ***** I met on 6th...

Its not okay to type: OU is a better prepared team top to bottom

One, please cite examples where the administrators of this site knowingly left an insult of a Rocket player up like that.

I will say this again, s-l-o-w-l-y: we don't read every post. People are free to criticize the players and coaches if they want; obviously, there are lines that shouldn't be crossed and if we see it, it will be removed.

There are a lot of stupid people on this BBS. There's not much we can do about that other than give posting guidelines and then try to force the idiots to adhere to them. We're not as quick with the hook as hornfans.com, but we use it as needed.

I don't particularly appreciate the implication that we don't care when people violate posting guidelines here. If I saw a "nutless coward" post about anyone other than Scottie Pippen, yes, I would delete it immediately.

Two, these are professional athletes to whom none of us have any connection, except that we live in the same city. That's a little different than calling a student-athlete at your alma mater names.

And Smokey, I have no idea what you're talking about. I've seen threads to exactly those effects posted. Now, the person posting them was shot down by popular opinion, but it sounds to me like you have hornfans.com mixed up with texags.com. Criticism of the players and coaches is permitted. "Nutless coward" doesn't qualify as criticism. It's nothing more than a low-class insult.

Topics that are repeatedly rehashed are locked quickly over there-- can you blame them? How many times do we need to read the Applewhite vs. Simms debate? Hornfans is a much larger community than clutchcity.net and then have the same kind of bandwidth problems we have. I don't blame Katy and her administrators for doing what they can to preserve it.

We say some terrible things about Cato on this site. Such as "I'd trade him for a Whopper combo meal" and I frequently see people refer to him as a "waste of space."

I agree that calling Simms a "nutless coward" wasn't nice, and I shouldn't bash any Texas players. But damnit, I drove to Dallas waited until 15 minutes before kickoff, paid $55 each for four tickets, only to watch that ridiculous choke job, so I was pissed off.

I think Smokey's right about his sample statements over. They don't want any negativity towards their players or recruits.

Baqui, bud, I was as pissed as you were. But Chris is a college kid, a student at my alma mater. I don't think he should be booed or insulted.

I think it's different for professional athletes. That's a personal distinction I make. Not saying it's right or wrong. That's just how I feel.

As for Smokey's scenarios, it's hard to argue particulars because of the "frequency factor". Neither of those two "not permitted" topics would be permitted, because they have been discussed ad nauseum. OK, fine, we all know there's a percentage of Texas fans who think Chris locks onto his primary receiver, and that the Oklahoma coaching staff does a better job preparing its team than the Texas staff does. There are arguments pro and con for both of those things-- they've been made, repeatedly, so yeah, new topics on those statements would be shut down quickly, I'm sure.

Legitimate, objective criticism of the players and coaches is permitted. The problem is that determining what does and doesn't qualify isn't objective at all. It's subjective, and Smokey disagrees with the Hornfans moderators. Oh well.

And I think the criticism of Kelvin Cato here is about equivalent to the criticism of Greg Davis over there.

Look for Mock to get plenty of reps against North Texas, Houston, Tulane, and maybe Baylor.Simms will probably play leave those games late in the 3rd quarter. Mock has thrown only 1 pass last year: a TD to Brian Carter against Kansas in the 59-0 blowout. Chance will be the starter in 2003 most likely. Nordgren unfortunately will be the odd man out.

Hornfans.com is a joke of a site. Lots of knowlegedable posters, but they all start getting into pissing matches if you don't agree with them. Not to mention that they are so damn cocky about their team.

Most UT fans I know, are for the most part classy and objective. HF.com is where you will find the arrogant fans who give UT a reputation of being cocky. That is basically the national perception of UT.

Are you serious? No one's ever called Maurice Taylor a name (******)? Kelvin Cato (every name in the book)? Jason Collier? Hakeem (whiny b****, etc)? Geez, I bet every Rocket player has been insulted at one point or another here.

That's not the implication. I was implying that posting guidelines were not being violated and pointing out a difference between the rules on the two sites. Is it a guideline that you can't call a Rocket player names? If so, I'm unaware of it. Nothing I said was meant as a slight to the admins. In the three years I've been on the site, I honestly never got the impression that insulting a Rocket player was off limits.
