I would just love to see us hold an opponent to a point total in the 50's. It hasn't been done for nearly 10 years I'm guessing... we got close against Charlotte and Cleveland... that would be something
somone should paste this stat on all the JVG hater threads. Blow outs are a great metric of coaching, because they show consistent EXECUTION and MOTIVATION on both ends of the floor, two of the factors which a coach is most responsible for. For all the fools that critize gundy on random threads for not playing greek t-mac etc, here is some random JVG praise--wire to wire wins and blowouts = signs of a good coach.
After the second game of the season against Dallas, I knew this team was special. That was no fluke win. The question you ask is how good can this team become when at full strength. Scary dangerous, if you ask me. When I say full strength i'm talking about everybody on their game. The Mavs and Suns have pretty much been playing at full strength up to this point. And I would say their pretty much playing at their peak. As for the Rockets the ceiling hasn't been reach. I would say come playoff time this team will dominate. Here's another stat to throw at yall. The Rockets have gave these teams their worst beating of the season. Dallas Spurs Lakers Minnesota, even though the suns gave them their worst, they were missing 2 players. The rockets whipping was more impressive because everybody was there.
Wow these stats just raised my rockets fan morale. As if it can get any bigger...next up Dallas, if we split that series we will be among the elite.
I'm really proud of my Rockets team. We are playing consistent and putting teams away. Go Rockets!-onward past San Antoino and the 3rd seed and home court!
Blowouts are nice but I'd rather see a 15 game winning streak where we won all the games by 3 point margins.
The other side of the coin is JVG insisted on leaving his starters in the games when the results were certain after opposing teams had already sent their benches to the court. The sign of a desperate coach who will do anything to extend his contract.
I'm not a fan of JVG but at this point I would extend his contract. He's left his starters in a little longer than many of us would like but given the early season tendency to blow big leads I don't blame him. In the meantime in recent wins he's been getting T-Mac plenty of rest.
You have just got to love what this team can pull off with out Yao Ming. They have been GREAT! TMAC is da man! MVP! MVP! MVP!
The only thing should matter for a contract extension is winning. Jeff Van Gundy is doing that. 'Nuff said.
yes right now we are winning....i pray that the massive minutes our starters have been playing arent going to kill us come playoff time.
No, I rather have a 15 game winning streak where we won all the games by blowouts because blowouts are the best games to watch.
Please show me where these "massive minutes" are and how they compare with coaches from around the league?
Its amazing to think we could've had 5-6 more blow out games had we not blown them leads(Bulls,Spurs..etc).
That doesn't even make sense. First of all, I've been seeing McGrady sit a lot...which is good. Second, why would JVG get an extension by playing his starters unneccesarily? You think Les Alexander says, well we beat Memphis by 25 points, sign JVG to a longer contract! You don't get a contract extension by blowing out bad teams...JVG plays to win, period. I don't think he's all that worried about getting an extension. As well as the Rockets are playing with Yao, he'll get an extension for sure...and if he doesn't, he'll get another job pretty easily.
Isn't that the big concern in Phoenix right now? They play fewer people than we do (I believe they have a 7 man rotation) and at a much faster pace. I don't see ESPN analysists calling for the head of D'Antoni!
with the leads that they blew early in the season, i think he's doing what he has to do in order to avoid yet another collapse.
