You forgot "t-shirt fan". I can't see D&D, but I'm guessing he's taken to calling Democrats t-shirt fans. Or, "Can you believe that tape we heard from Osama bin t-shirt fan?".
that is quite commonplace. the "horns down" thing is pretty much the conference symbol of the big xii. rarely do you see anyone actually do their own school's sign/symbol/whatever, horns down it is, even when they're not playing us. i've always wondered how much money we make just off people who buy our stuff to turn it upside down. awesome to see us raking in the money like this and breaking records. but hey, we're Texas, so no one should be surprised. and this doesn't even include the shirts and VY jersey i'm planning on getting from the coop next week (do they have VY jersey's? i only saw a ramonce jersey in coop east yesterday). kind of the opposite of Rice's MO.
I've never seen the Horns down on a car or anything. I think your cockiness is showing. Kind of like ND fans who blame losses/close games on teams rising up because they are playing Notre Dame.
I love how any thread about Texas gets turned in a Texas bash-fest by you. Didn't you learn anything about the Rose Bowl? You talked the most $hit out of anyone here and you got COMPLETELY OWNED!! You tried to lay low so you don't get called out and now you're just back to your dumb self. Quit while your ahead Bigtexxx. Rice is a great academic school but I could almost guarantee you that there have been way more successful people to come out of UT than Rice. And guess what? THEY ALSO HAD FUN IN COLLEGE AND GOT TO WATCH THEIR TEAM WIN CHAMPIONSHIPS!! rather than watching the abomination they call the Rice athletic program. BTW, how do you feel about Rice hiring Major?
you're "debomination"? Rice did win a championship - remember when Rice pwnd UT twice in Omaha? I like Major.
francis... what I thought was funny was the fact that they didn't even have an OU sticker or anything... I could see it more if they had an OU sticker and the texas thing.. but they didn't even bother putting anything from their own state school on the car. I had never seen that before.. thought it was kind of funny.
Texas has a legitimate chance to also win baseball and basketball this year. I don't think thats ever been done before. That would be cool if they could pull it off.
Whoops, thanks for the spell check. Oh you mean the biggest fluke championship of all time? I guess I'd hang on to that as well though. BTW, those graduation rates you were talking about were about 10 years old IIRC. Also, that's the rate of student-athletes that graduate in 4 years, it does not account for 5-year or 6-year graduates, which means it doesn't count students that red shirt or ones that just happen to take longer.
This doesn't surprise me at all. It was bound to happen whenever UT won a national title. Texas is a HUGE state and I would argue that the majority following is UT between people that went there and people that didn't, but grew up as UT fans. When you are the flagship university in a state that large, this is what should happen. I imagine this is also why Georgia is so high - every person in that state that never even stepped into a college classroom flaunts UGa merchandise. It's their "state's team", much like I'm sure UT is to Texas. No offense to TAMU, but they = Georgia Tech in this analogy, they'll never have the fan following of the big state school. Another factor depends on how lenient the school is with merchandising rights. The University of Florida is notorious for being very stingy with their merchandising right, but I would never expect them to be very highly ranked anyway because FSU and Miami would cannabalize part of their sales region.
The colors really do stick out. In Singapore and Japan I was stopped and asked by Longhorns that live abroad where did I get mine. They frowned when I said the co-op.
I can attest to this. I attend a small community college in a town of about 30,000 in Western New York of all places. Yeah, I have some Texas gear, being from the state. If I still lived in the state, that's where I'd more than likely be attending college at. Anyways, in my small college, I've noticed an HUGE increase in the numbers of random people wearing UT gear - people that I've never seen wear any college gear, or even talk about sports. The college's merchandise is definitely being bought up everywhere. Just so bigtexxx, etc. don't feel left out: A kid in one of my classes wore a Rice baseball cap to school for the last two days. That's the first time I've ever seen any Rice merchandise outside of Texas, so I congratulated the kid on his hat and told him I liked it. He said he was wearing it because he liked their baseball team, but did not even know that that's wear Lance Berkman attended school.
I saw UT shirts when I was in China. UT's student body has at least one person from each state and obviously 100+ countries. It's pretty well known. Obviously I'm biased, but I think the simplicity of the logo is a factor as well. It's like nike, as the article states. That, and state pride and all the other stuff contributes. From what I remember, UT has always been in the top four as far as merchandise sales.
http://web1.ncaa.org/app_data/gsr2005/703.pdf 40%. Wow, that's sad. But let's not forget they win games!
Man, what can I say, UT is hard and challenging school to graduate from. Unlike some other schools with strict admission standards but inflate your gpa once you're in so their academic rankings can be up there
before Christmas (and, thus, before the Rose Bowl) my mom asked me to help her find Vince Young Longhorn jerseys for my son and my nephew. forget it...in the stores, it was impossible. i got online...i was able to find ONE online for my son...it was the ONLY size i could find anywhere on the net, and he's 5 years old. we still haven't found one in my nephew's size.
