Everyone I know is supportive of Simms, the coaches, and the team. We don't root against Simms. However, we are not afraid to take off the glasses and be critical when it is necessary. Simms is a good QB who struggles (more like destructs) against ranked defenses. That is reality. I'd rather not rehash the Major/Simms debate.
I don't think it is right to lose your job to injury. But if they are still hot, then you have to ride their coat tails. I am not a big fan of Simms. I just don't like how he was groomed to be the greatest damn thing on the piece of Longhorn earth. I would like for him to do good, because I like Longhorn Football.
If I remember correctly we were dominating all stat categories except for scoreboard. It was only a matter of time before we got things rolling. It's also tough not have the Big 12 freshman of the year in your backfield.
after reading BK's post about "best chance to win" and scrolling down the posts, I was getting all fired up to actually start a Major/Chris debate... especially when the Holiday Bowl was brought up... but ah well!
Exactly. Supporting him is one thing. Kissing his ass is another story.... Simms and Greg Davis is a bad combination
Ahh, nothing like the Major apologists. When it comes to Major... But when it comes to Simms... http://bbs.clutchcity.net/showthread.php?s=&threadid=39286
Don't misquote me. You said Simms did not have Benson against OU and lost. I said Major did not have Benson against UW and won. Bottomline Major won without Cedric. That's what I mean with the don't give me the "if Cedric had played" BS. I admit having Cedric makes things easier, but having Cedric doesn't guarantee victory...start of Big 12 title game.
Yup. My guess is that Major can't throw for 500 yards without Cedric against Roy Williams and the OU defense.
Because of their offense and their power running game, not their defense. They gave up 37 points to UT in the Big 12 title game. They gave up over 30 to Nebraska in the last game of the season. They gave up 38 to Oregon in the Fiesta Bowl. That defense is not at all comparable to OU. Also, Crouch had one of his best games of the season against CU, despite the loss.
Perhaps if Simms got to play the whole game against CU he could've put up better numbers. It's not exactly fair to compare Major in a full game against UW to Simms in a quarter and a half against CU.
Can we compare Simms and Major vs. the same defense or would that be unfair too? Edit - I didn't want to rehash Simms/Major but here I am. I'll drop it now.
Not in the same game, no. Being a great QB isn't all about how you perform the second you step on the field. It's about making adjustments, learning tendencies, and in general feeling the other team out and making progress as the game goes on. It's safe to say Simms didn't have a lot of time to do that in a quarter and a half.
