They started out the 2nd half great. As soon as they took the lead at 44-43 or whatever it was, it was almost as if they instantly stopped doing what got them there. I'm sure KS woke up a little at that point but you're right, it seemed like it was almost entirely UT beating themselves after doing all the right things to get back into it. They need to learn from this. That's about all you can say.
The Cat -- Hyperbole much? Teams have off games. Winning 17 games in a row is an impressive feat, regardless of the competition. Most people have been saying all season we would drop one because of our FT shooting. We've avoided it before because we have a bunch of guys who are capable of carrying a team for a game (James, Bradley, Pittman, et. al). Bradley seems to have hit a mini-wall just when he was bursting out. James had an off-night, but he single handedly beat the Aggies this weekend. The whole game was bizarro world for the offense, with Balbay, Mason, and Chapman as the key contributors. It's great for the program to have reached the #1 ranking. Hopefully, it will make us hungry to get it back.
I don't care how bad of a shooter Balbay is, he needs to take that shot in the corner. FT shooting fail. Big time.
Yup, the free throws aren't the big concern for me. Those will even out with time, they have decent shooters. The concern for me is the decision-making - the countless balls thrown away, miscommunications on who is cutting and when, rushing lay-ups near the basket, Hamilton not knowing that you can, believe it or not, pass the ball, etc. Fortunately, Brown, Bradley, Hamilton and others are freshmen, and this is one of their first legitimate road tests, so you have to think they'll learn and improve from this. Also, I don't have faith that this will get better, but Big 12 refs are every bit as inept at officiating Dexter Pittman as NBA refs are at officiating Yao. Pittman's fourth foul was a huge turning point - and he literally didn't do anything. Just stood there with his hands straight up and got a rebound. The other guy bumped into him, though, and of course he falls because Dexter is so big. Guess who gets the foul? By the way, no more fitting way for that game to end than Mason's two bricks.
Never said or implied it wasn't. It's a hell of a feat. I enjoy this Texas team as much as any I've ever watched, and if I had to pick a national title winner right now, I'd still take UT. All that said, this tonight is just ridiculous.
It even looked like Pittman was jumping backwards with his hands straight up. I figured I missed something before he jumped up because I saw nothing that warranted a foul. If anything, I thought it was on the KSU player in front of him. I think Pittman did, too.
On the bench with four fouls, the last for having the nerve to stand still while a Kansas State defender grabbed his arm and jumped into him...
Maybe they need to create something like WADA for officiating. WAHOA - World Anti-Horrible Officiating Agency
yea i saw that play , its all good no need to worry . Dexter n Damion arent going to have nights like this often N LOL @ KSU SAYING WE OWN TEXAS. hahahahahah
I didn't catch that. That's pretty lame. They would have been more accurate to say TEXAS OWNED THEMSELVES!
I actually think this was a legitimate cheer. They beat us last year in basketball on our home court They beat us in football in 2006 in a game that, had we won, would have put us in the driver's seat for the Championship game They beat us at home in football in 2007 There is just something about those boys from Manhattan. They really have owned Texas in recent years.
Bad game for UT....they will learn from this....book the final 4 tickets though they will be there. DD
Do you watch any games ? Like I mean any College basketball, College football , or anything other then rox games? Do you even watch rockets games?
Agreed. It's really uncanny. No matter how good or bad they are, or the sport, we struggle against them.
Tournament basketball is all about the free throws. Either Digger or Coach Knight said he thought a 10 man rotation didn't allow for continuity and rhythm. There weren't enough minutes for a player to work himself out of a cold spell. Mason may be the guy who needs to sit. I'd play James and Bradley every minute I could.
to steal a thought from major, why do fans feel compelled to chant "overrated" when they beat a top team on their home court. doesn't that kinda diminish what your team just accomplished? instead of thinking your team is as good as the #1 team in the nation, it's that the #1 team in the nation is down to your level. good game by ksu last night. big xii home basketball is just insane this season. i haven't been this much into regular season college basketball in a long time...love it!
It's really been a problem throughout Rick Barnes' tenure. I can't remember a good UT free throw shooting team since he's been here. He's a great coach...one of the best...but this has always baffled me. I called it before the game that FT's would do UT in. Lose by 9 and went 9-22 from the free throw line. I'm a little concerned about Avery Bradley these last 2 games. 2 big games and he's been persona non grata.
