Seems the crazies in Texas just can't get enough.

Texas Republicans Now Pushing for 6-Week Abortion Ban

For those of you who thought you might get a teeny tiny break from Texas’ anti-choice insanity after Gov. Rick Perry (R-TX) finally signed SB2, we have bad (but predictable) news: Texas got even crazier. Rep. Phil King (R-TX) has filed a new bill, HB 59, restricting “abortion after detection of a fetal heartbeat,” which can happen as early as six weeks after fertilization.

I would agree to this in principle.
If Texas Republicans would shut the heck up about Roe v. Wade forever, we could give them a six-week-long ban on abortions.

unfortunately Roe v. Wade, clear as day, makes a six-week-long ban on abortion unconstitutional.

64% of Americans oppose second trimester abortions:

Per the Susan B. Anthony List, Gallup also notes that overwhelming majorities of Americans oppose late-term abortions; 80 percent reject third trimester abortions, and 64 percent do the same in the second trimester.

13 weeks would be 1st trimester.

It is something I'd love to see, but we need a new judicial interpretation for that to happen.

Except when it comes to passing a law against it.

Deal with it dog. But by all means, make this a national issue.

A carefully considered framework and balencing of constitutional rights that has been challenged and re-affirmed several times (by some of the justices that still sit on the bench, even) is not something to be trifled with.

Not much has changed since that ruling---abortions, are, if anything, decreasing these days---I don't see what is the rush to constantly redefine established law and rush to criminialize things other than the constant emotional fog that accomplies this issue.

for people really wanting to work on decreasing abortions further, work towards sex education, spreading contraceptives, and creating more supportive frameworks for mothers of all circumstances. tis all.

Great now the "easy" girls just got a lot harder. This hurts men more than women.

'Twas a joke. I know I will be flogged in purgatory some day for making just one more abortion thread just one post longer. :(

GOP officials work against republican 'crazies'

GOP Tries To Slow Anti-Abortion Push In Key States

MILWAUKEE — Abortion is still legal but getting one in many states will be difficult if laws passed this year are upheld by the courts. In a march through conservative legislatures, anti-abortion Republicans passed a wave of new restrictions that would sharply limit when a woman could terminate a pregnancy and where she could go to do so.

The push brought the anti-abortion movement closer to a key milestone, in which the procedure would become largely inaccessible in the three-fifths of the country controlled by Republicans even if still technically legal under Roe vs. Wade.

But rather than continuing to roll across the GOP heartland in synch with the pro-life movement's plan, the effort may now be hitting a wall. The obstacle comes not from opposing Democrats but from GOP leaders who believe pressing further is a mistake for a party trying to soften its harder edges after election losses last year.

And the law just got struck down. Glad our legislature is wasting time passing unconstitutional garbage like this instead of actually trying to solve problems.

Ghost of Christmas Future: Brazil has tough abortion laws and a culture that rejects abortion, yet 800,000 illegal abortions are performed annually, and 250,000 end up with complications.

    Take heed Texas.
