USC will have the advantage playing right down the road in Pasadena, you've got to be stupid to deny that. How big of an advantage will it be? I'm not sure, but they'll have that advantage nonetheless.
Let me add on to this so I don't get any uppity 'horns coming at me. They may not have the overall advantage in the game (I can see how some people may think that was implied by my post), but they'll have the advantage of playing a home game (travel-wise) and they will have more fans there.
You're hatred for UT is really becoming a joke. Barely beating tOSU at home? I forgot that Ohio State was #15 at the time, oh ya, they weren't. We beat the #4 team in the country (at the time) in the hardest stadium in NCAA. We beat them in a night game at the HorseShoe which hadn't been done in a LONG LONG time. Having the 2nd longest losing streak in the NCAA means you win your games, road or at home.
USC will have a home field advantage, but one thing to consider about Texas. Of all the teams in the country, they are the ones talked about as being least affected by road play during Mack Brown's tenure, and they've pulled some significant upsets on the road (ending Nebraska's 10-yr home streak, etc). Teams struggle on the road because they get rattled. In the 3 games you referred to - OSU, Michigan, and Kansas - UT won them late in the 4th quarter. That's generally where you lose on the road because the fans are going nuts and all that. I'm not terribly concerned about this UT team playing in a road game. I'd actually rather it be that than a neutral site game, where this team has sucked for some reason under Mack Brown (B12 Championship, bowl games, and OU).
It looks good now, but even if UT wins out, I'm not sure if it stacks up against the others. Best wins: UT: OSU, CU, TT, A&M USC: Ore, AZ St, ND, Cal, UCLA VPI: GT, WVir, BC, Mia, FSU
This won't last more than a week or two - we'll take SOS hits on the next couple of games - and USC will be back to No. 1 in the BCS. But look at that gap between Texas and VT - it'll take some kind of massive slip up for VaTech to pass us.
i was in LA for last year's Rose Bowl. UT nation practically outnumbered the so-cal residents. texxx doesn't know what he's talking about.
and that's all that matters. i'd actually like to see UT go in to the Rose Bowl as #2 against USC. puts a little more pressure on the Trojans.
Or maybe puke orange was just more easily seen than the random normal colors that the other fans were wearing.
yep, i was there...we had a very strong showing there. we drove and it was like the oregon trail of Texas fans driving across the west. great times!!
just like you've been objective in every game thread predicting doom up until the point UT starts to dismantle appointments then you disappear.
I dont see why you longhorns are worrying my bruins will take care of that ****hole of a school come dec 3rd
Someone actually interrupted my class today to tell everyone that we (Texas) were number 1 in the BCS standings. But, like others have said, we will probably lose that spot in a few weeks if USC wins out and we win out as well. That being said if Texas wins out they should play in the Rose Bowl. Even if USC plays in the Rose Bowl their "home field advantage" would not be that tremendous. Sure they might have more people in the stands but if Texas is no. 2 and the "underdog" I can see more people pulling for Texas just because they are tired of seeing SC win all the time. Secondly on that point Texas just went to the Rose Bowl last year and are certainly comfortable with that stadium and "big-game atmosphere." If Texas goes to the Rose Bowl expect for Mack to have the team stay in the same hotel and probably do all the same things that they did last year. The team will be ready to play in the Rose Bowl - against USC or any other team.
I was raised an OSU fan because my dad went there, but The 'Shoe as the hardest stadium in the NCAA is a very arguable statement. Top five? Yes. Hardest stadium? Doubtful. Also, they made a big deal about nobody winning a night game at Columbus in a long time, but the truth is that OSU hadn't played a whole lot of night games against good opponents for a very long stretch.
Fair enough. But saying playing in a 110,000+ stadium full of crazy fans at night is tough. I just don't see how someone can say we're shaky on the road after we beat Michigan at the Rose Bowl and then beat the then #4 team in the nation on their turf.
