The wife and I bought recently bought a house in the Flower Mound Marcus district, so I've been following them a bit. Sadly, they're going to get destroyed by Trinity in the first round. However, I'll be happy if an El Paso team makes it past the second round...
SPX has a legit shot at a 3-peat. SB is good this season and has an excellent QB. Though SPX is Division I and SB is Division II. Both have good shots at taking state. If you wanna see the brackets, go to www.tapps.net and click on athletics. it will direct you from there to show you all of the brackets in each division. BTW, SPX has a bye week this week after winning its district and will play the winner of brownsville st. joseph and dallas bishop lynch on dec. 22 at SPX. SB plays Austin Hyde Park this week and plays the winner of Argyle Liberty Christian and Dallas Parish Episcopal.
i can't believe Strake Jesuit went 8-1, when i graduated there in 97, we were barely a .500 team every year. what are they doing now? giving out scholarships?
No kidding? How did I miss this? Depending on who is playing, I'll have to go this year. Maybe I'll get to see Odessa Permian vie for their 7th State Championship in person. I got to go to a game in Odessa many years ago and it was a life-changing experience.
The UIL announced it in late June, it was pretty much off the radar. http://www.journal-spectator.com/news/2008/0705/sports/023.html Reliant Stadium to host UIL 5A football championships The 2008 UIL Conference 5A Division I and Division II state football championships will be held at Reliant Stadium in Houston, the UIL announced last week. Last year's championship games were held at the Alamodome in San Antonio. The other classification championship games are held at neutral sites and determined by coaches.
I hope SPX has a chance to beat up on Bishop Lynch...we lost to them in the playoffs 2 or 3 times in a row when I was there, until we finally beat them in the semis my senior year...
Wainting until the 1 to 2 days before the game to decide? There are alot of teams involved not knowing who or if they are playing. Edcouch-Elsa Season on Hold till Thursday One Valley football powerhouse program could miss the playoffs, that after winning every game of the regular season. Officials at Edcouch-Elsa are defending allegations that the team knowingly took the field with an ineligible player. Multimedia * Watch The Video If the Yellow jackets did break UIL rules, the team would be knocked from the playoffs. Mission Vets would replace Edcouch-Elsa in the post season should the Edcouch-Elsa be stripped of their district wins. Reports have surfaced that the 32-4A district was forced to bring up the alleged violation because if the district tried to cover it up, all four teams could be removed from the post-season. The Yellow jackets must wait till Thursday to discover the teams fate.
You've already said you don't care (even though you've posted 4 times in this thread....). We get it. Anyway, I still don’t understand why there have to be 4 teams in every district to make the playoffs. When is the last time a 3rd or 4th place team did anything besides lose in the first round? Hell, half of them are at or below .500. Eliminate this silly rule and there’s no longer a need to have 2 5-A state champions every year. This is high school, not the pee-wee leagues. The kids on the 3rd and 4th place teams aren’t going to die if they don’t make the playoffs.
I'm not trying to offend you, I just find it interesting. So do you follow high school football all season? Or just the playoffs?
Here in Victoria, Memorial High School is in with Judson and the Corpus schools. We are the fourth place team and we play SA Clark on Friday. Before the game last Friday, I told my wife that if we beat East Central, we are in the playoffs, she laughed and didn't believe me at first. MHS is 5-4. Side note, back in 2000 our two 5A schools consolidated and now, we are building two new high schools and in two years MHS will be no more.
I agree with you, but...a couple of years ago, District 26-5A had 4 teams in the top 30 in the state. Converse Judson was the 4 seed and they ended up playing Euless Trinity for the state title (they lost). That district was seriously tough then. There were some 1A districts were a 7-3 team didn't make it in a few years back, yet we have 4-5 teams in 4A & 5A making it in to the playoffs.
Holy crap, Kempner grads here? That's awesome. I hope we beat Clear Lake, too, but I've heard Clear Lake is pretty good The game is in Pasadena too, which is ridiculous.
