On the surface this sounds pretty stupid but I am curious exactly what did this curriculum call for and how is it being implemented?

I have to admit I am suspicious of things that try to use a cutesy sound acronym to address a very complicated issue.

He didn't talk about the future at all. Only the past. He is obviously baffled as to how in the past, the USA achieved anything. IF you want to call people who are patriotic "pre-enlightenment", that fits into a nice little package as well.

Does it baffle you how the USA became so powerful?

Texas used to not have public schools or public hospitals or public universities or state hospitals for the mentally ill.

Then the Confederacy lost the Civil War and they were forced to (like the rest of the South) under Reconstruction.

You mean how a bunch of ambitious immigrants over the course of 200 years came here and kicked ass for dirt cheap looking for a better life.

We took in the cream of the crop of the world for centuries, combined with massively lush resources, a great democracy that constantly challenged conventional wisdom - which didn't stick to the past. which ended slavery. Which gave women the right to vote. Which past the New Deal.

I think what baffles me is how the right forgets that.

Yup. Progressive thought has been the driving force behind the ascent of the United States into the dominant world power. Why they suddenly want to regress is beyond me.

Hardly. American power is a combination of geographic resources, the collapse of regional powers across the world as they destroyed each other, and of a culture which absorbed and promoted Weber's ethic. It didn't come across because we gave women the right to vote, or even because we freed the slaves - blacks weren't much better than slaves by the time we became the dominant power, after all.
