Whats even more amusing is people actually love these places. Every time I visit Texas Roadhouse, I am ALWAYS disappointed. Even outback doesn't disappoint me all the time.

Another great one here in the east is Texas Pete's hot<s>tomato</s> sauce.

I was born and raised in Texas and I still maintain my Texas pride. But there isn't much that can pry me away from the mountains of West NC.

...you'd think with the power of Texas marketing, people could turn a negative into a positive:

    ...The 'Tex' Prostate Exam
    ...Big Texas Wisdom Tooth Extraction
    ...Rootin' Tootin' Texas Chemotherapy

You won't find much of what Texas is known for or represents in Houston, Dallas, Austin, etc. Most of those cities are just like every other urban city in any other state... the middle-class trying to escape urban America by moving to the sub- and ex-urbs, metrosexuals moving downtown to get drunk and look down upon suburbia, and a mess of people commuting here and there not really giving a damn about the state one way or another.

Go find a small town with some ranches and farms where people bust their tails working. Go somewhere you can find some blue collar labor that doesn't deal with building the next cookie-cutter house. To me, rednecks whose necks are red from bustin' their butts working in the sun, don't take crap from anybody, but are always kind and polite to those who treat them kindly and politely is what a Texan is.

But the funny thing about that is, you can find those kind of people in a lot of states. ;)

Gotta politely disagree....somewhat. Cities are generally similar, not a lot of doubt about that. Texans though, even the city ones are damn proud of their state. Other states don't consistenly produce that pride in their people. At least not the ones that get out. Maybe thats the reason non-Texans try to talk trash about us.

We have our faults sure, but the friendliness of Texans does seem to stand out to me. Go to another region a watch, you can notice subtle differences in the people, even in cities.

Michigan, Ohio, Colorado, California, New York, Massachusetts, Florida, Louisiana, and Alabama come off the top of my head for people proud of their states.

Jesus, it's like you guys are not even trying.

When I was younger I did a few months of traveling for a job and once asked for a Texas Double Cheeseburger at a lay over in an Atlanta airport. The girl looked at me and just said "uhhh we don't have that here."

    Love me some Texas!

Are you even trying? I'll give you New York, California and Florida. After that I can't go with you. I'm not saying the other staes are ashamed of their homestates, they're just not as proud. My best friend is from Ohio and outside of the Buckeyes, that dude could care less.

Just to clarify, I do actually know quite a few people from different areas as I'm in the Navy. I'm basing what I see from the traveling I've done and the buddies I work with. On Californians specifically, they back up their state, but they don't know much about it aside from the animal being the bear.

Definitely New York, California, Florida, and Massachusetts.. People are very proud of Beantown.

And about the nice people in Texas. You must be white. I'm sure white people in Texas feel more 'friendliness' from other white people, than they do in other states.

However, I bet minorities feel different about this. They actually might get a more "friendlier" vibe in states OUTSIDE of the South such as California, New York, etc.

I agree on all points. I really did not have an appreciation or understanding for this until I moved to Colorado 2 years ago. I can't believe how much I miss Texas

We are also one of the few states in the US that can hold their own if they were to secede from the United States.

We wouldn't exactly be the most prosperous country in the world, but we could survive...

I think we'd do all right. Look at the recent recession, Texas did a lot better than most states. Plus we have resources and shipping access.

It reminds me of the Russian professor a couple years back who thought the US would break up in smaller countries agter another civil war. It would be interesting to see. Not saying I want it, but I would be ok if it happened. :p
