A smart person always looks at all the factors before making a decision, not blindly following what a group of people thinks

I know. Sometimes I wonder if @tinman is a genuine character or some sort of parody. If it is a parody that's more than a decade dedicated to it which would be pretty impressive dedication to a parody account.

There are consequences to having an excessively friendly corporate environment. The sad reality is that most of the talent that these corporations in Texas attracts are outsourced from out of the state.

The one good thing I can say about Texas education and developing in state talent is that their public university system is pretty damn good with UT Austin.

States like Massachusetts have heavy tax burdens for corporations and more regulations than Texas yet Massachusetts attracts tech companies AND their quality of life metrics for the actual residents of Massachusetts are excellent with excellent access to healthcare and excellent k-12 education. Tech companies are going to naturally be attracted to regions with high access to highly educated populations without sucking their dicks in terms of tax incentives and deregulation.

You mean people from other states are moving to Texas

Texas still one of the most popular states for relocations, especially for Californians
Texas ranked second in the nation for relocation in 2018, and the number of Californians moving here increased by more than 34%.

"For the sixth year in a row, more than half a million people chose Texas as their new home," said Cindi Bulla, 2020 chairman of Texas Realtors. “And why not? In addition to its business-friendly environment with no state income tax and abundance of jobs, land and opportunity, Texas is known for its diverse, friendly spirit and culture.”

The report states that 563,945 people moved to Texas in 2019, which is more than the number of out-of-state residents (524,511) who moved here in 2017. The net gain of new residents in Texas in 2018 increased by 78.1% from 57,173 in 2017 to 101,805 residents in 2018.

    So, what about the Californians?

The report shows that Texas saw the highest number of new residents moving from California at 86,164. Meanwhile, Texas got 37,262 Floridians, 29,108 Louisianans, 24,590 Oklahomans and 21,509 New Yorkers. Compared to 2017, Texas saw an increase of 36.4% of Californian residents. And, in 2018, 201,559 people moved to Texas from outside of the country.

Yes that's my point. Do you suffer from lack of reading comprehension skills? Texas attracts outside talent due to loose business regulations and tax burdens. However that is at the detriment of the current native population in Texas suffering from access to healthcare and poor public education.

Hence why I prefer the Massachusetts model that attracts tech companies based on quality of the local population rather than attraction for relocation.

That doesn't change the fact that Texas is the worst state in the union at access to healthcare and one of the worst states in high school graduation rates and quality of public k-12 education. There are random bright areas of good school districts in Texas spring led around but those are reserved for families who can afford to live in neighborhoods with high property values.

Texas is like that landlord that orders to improve the rental property's outside aesthetics and renovate the vacant units to attract new customers while completely ignoring the requests of current residents.

There's going to be people of all income classes anywhere in any city in any state in any country

Yeah, if you a dude working at Taco Bell who dropped out of high school isn't going to be as successful as Elon Musk
But the dude at Taco Bell working Texas isn't living in his car

Okay but Texas has the worst access to healthcare for its residents RELATIVE to all other 49 states in the union.

All states have issues with this. Texas is the WORST at it.

Healthcare in Texas is usually accessed by people with jobs.

So when Elon builds that factory in Texas
I'm willing to bet that those employees get healthcare insurance.

So higher paying jobs do offer healthcare.

So is Tesla and Elon = good for healthcare
    [IMG]

Texas + Tesla = good for the health of the world

If Texas is so business friendly then why aren't all the jobs coming to Texas not enough to pull Texas to at least 49th place?

Obviously jobs aren't enough to cover healthcare for Texas residents or otherwise Texas wouldn't be ranked dead last.
