    closest place with caribbean like beach is in Destin, FL... about an hour or so east of new orleans. It's even better than south padre.

    I forgot "Destin, FL" was in Texas. Also, I forgot "Destin" was an hour or so East of NOLA.

    Surfside is a nice alternative to Galveston.

    I think I did state that color had nothing to do with nastiness of Galveston water. I understand brown water is not pollution. Its the oily sheen and the greasy feeling after getting in the water.

    Ugly water doesn't prevent you from chilling at the beach. Places like Santa Cruz ca have disgusting beaches near the boardwalk and that doesn't prevent people from going

    Just beware that springtime means seaweed. Usually until Memorial Day or so.

    This is true. I've seen clear water all the way to the beach on many occasions. I used to do a lot of fishing around Galveston back in the day.

    You feel greasy when you're in the water there? I notice the tar balls when I step on them, but I've never felt greasy from the water at Galveston. Maybe unclean, but never greasy.

    Uhhhh Destin is nowhere near new Orleans.
