Only went once about 5 years ago and wasn't terribly impressed. Sounds like I might have to make a return visit.

I love Pizzatola's ribs. No sauce needed.

Coopers in Llano is just north of Fredricksburg and worth the drive.

Main Street BBQ is "all you can eat". Their brisket is hit or miss : on their best days I'd give them a 7, but on their worst, it's like eating snot (there's sometimes way too much fat in the brisket). The ribs are always average to above-average the times I've tried them.

The best brisket I've had in Dallas was at Lockhart Smokehouse. They're in the Kreutz family from what I recall. It is probably the 3rd best brisket I've ever had behind Franklin and Snow's. The only problem is, I've been there about 3 or 4 times and two of those times, the brisket wasn't that great. They are inconsistent as hell. There's a shack in the middle of nowhere called Meshac's. I think it's in Garland. I've been meaning to try it. It's basically a booth with no seating from what I recall, but people absolutely love their brisket.

Tried out Stiles Switch today for lunch.

Brisket: A : excellent flavor and moist. No sauce needed and a nice bark on the meat. Very tasty.

Pork Ribs: C : good flavor but tough. Meat was actually hard to pull from bone and a little chewy. The flavor saved the grade of a C or they would have been close to failing.

I tried Stiles around a month ago. Brisket was as you described. The sausage was great as well. Would visit again.

you are 20 minutes from lulling and lockhart - if you dont want to make that drive then you deserve nothing more than bill millers.

And don't bother going this weekend - they're closed (though they're usually open).
