Wrong. It's not even close. Franklin is actually far better than Rudy's. I've eaten at Franklin twice. I was very impressed by the brisket. Everything else was so-so (but still better than Rudy's).
Love me some beef ribs, although Taylor is kinda out there off 79 right? I've always liked County Line for their beef ribs.
I love these threads. I get so damn hungry for good BBQ, and want to hop in my car and go on a BBQ tasting trip, which I've certainly done before. (mouth waters)
The only drawback to Meuller's is the smoke factor. I went there over the Christmas holiday with some family from out of town, and I wore a semi-nice leather jacket that I have. It still smells a little smokey.
ugh - no offense, but you need to get out more. rudy's isnt even the best chain bbq joint in texas. listen to this one. he knows his bbq. agree about salt lick too - good, but way overrated. i would also add blacks in lockhart and muellers in taylor.
Southside Market doesn't belong on there for me. I've been going there since they were downtown and their sausage is really all that's ever done it for me. They do have a great meat market and great crackers though. Been going to Louie Mueller for the same amount of time and would have to put them on the list. Great place!
As the previous posters stated, the joints in Lockhart are top notch. Never understood the fascination with Salt Lick. Overrated IMO. Rudy's does not deserve to be mentioned with the top spots in this State.
i disagree - i like pok-e-jos (for a chain bbq joint). any houstonians remember luthers? they got bought by papa's i think, and they suck now.
i ran the austin marathon this past weekend and a friend of mine recommended us to go eat at salt licks outside of austin, it had to be the best bbq i've tasted!! Plus its byob
Agreed. I have no problem with Poke-Jo's. They used to have like a $6.49 brisket plate one day a week that came with brisket, two sides, and texas toast.
