Moose ribs are excellent. As is Montreal smoked beef (basically Canadian pastrami). As for the other stuff (pork ribs, hams, pork butts) they looooove maple syrup, which is not really my style.
I HATE canadian bacon, man. HATE. I don't even really know if it's REALLY Canadian or not. But it SUCKS.
I really don't like HAM. Ugh. So soft and human-like. And SWEET for no good reason? Ughhhhh. Mortadella got a lil PIZAZZ to it, I'm down with that. If you're throwing some spicy mustard and pepperoncinis on it. Some feta. Yall out here eating Ham & MAYO o lawdt.
Oh dude, there was some peeps ahead of me who quit the line for Goldee's after they got nervous about food availability. They went "We're going to Panther" I said "nah, we're waiting" They said "If I see you at Panther, I know what happened" LOL
This place always looked DOPE to me but I'd rather BURN MYSELF than go to Longview, TX.. https://www.instagram.com/sunbirdbbq
The original Bodacious BBQ is in longview too and they made the TX monthly top 10 a couple years back also.
The guy that started Sunbird used to work there and ended up running Bodacious at one point from what I've read.
What's the deal with the Texas Monthly thing - how does it work on Saturday? Anyone can just walk up and buy BBQ? I see that only Sunday tickets are available. Nothing left for Sat. If I go, it'd only be Sat. But no tickets available. The experience is still fun on Sat without a ticket?
Yeah, it's now a 2-day thing. The Sunday picnic would have been sweet (it is a ticket-only deal). The Saturday is just like it's always been, free to the public to get in, pay for everything once you're in. They had VIP tickets (that's what I did the year I went) but they're sold out. No idea how crowded it'll be, I would imagine pretty zoo-tastic.
Heading back to Texas for another road trip in March and looking for some recommendations from locals of bbq joints to try across the state. Previously have been to: Louie Mueller in Taylor Terry Blacks in Dallas Heim Bbq in Fort Worth Stillwater Bbq in Abilene (which was one of my favourites on the last road trip, but seemingly closed for good now) Coopers in Llano A couple of other places around the state which were smaller and not known names, thus I've forgotten what they were. I'm thinking of Leroy & Lewis in Austin purely for the fact I check out Chuds Bbq on Youtube and he always does a shoutout to them as he used to work there, but open to any and all other suggestions!
