Mock's one big mistake was the lateral, y'all are being way too hard on him. Arkansas's QB made an even worse pitch that UT returned for a TD and I still think the guy had a great game. Everyone is talking Roy up (and deservedly so, he's amazing), but his fumble at his own 5 led to easy Arkansas points and was worse than anything Mock did all day.
Others have answered your question, but how many yards do you normally get on a quarterback sneak? Answer: One. So, why in the hell do you run one from the 5 yard line? And then you run it again from the 3? Bottom line is that Ohio State is damn lucky to win (yet again) just like Miami was last week.
HAHAHAHA I don't understand about that Longhorn hype ... ha ha ha Arkansas was definitely the better team and tu is in for a pretty long year Gig 'em
Your posts have been far too logical. There are Mack haters, Mock haters and Vince Young fanatics and nothing you can post will change it. Arkansas has a very veteran offensive line (arguably the best in the SEC) which allowed them to control the game. Discounting TO's that was the difference IMHO. Even a casual CFB fan like myself would be extremely bummed had both UT and Ohio State lost today. In the Buckeyes case, against the school that stole the NCAA BBall championship from Phi Slamma Jama. I root against any NC St athletic team.
You see thats what I like about being a Texas Tech Alum. I dont ever have to get myself worked up over football games because I know we are never going to contend for the national title - Im just being a realistic fan - not being optimistic. The problem with Texas is all the hype every year. Best recruiting class in the nation, a high national preseason ranking, players that have Heisman potential. It gets everyone excited and then they go 9-2 and end up at the Holiday Bowl, crushing the hearts of Texas fans. Its good I guess to have high expectations for your team, but for some fans I know, it can be really gut wrenching and disappointing. Besides, if yall beat OU this year, all will be forgotten.
If Mack loses three more this year, I think the party is over. Actually, an 8-4 season would tighten the noose, but two 8-4 seasons will hang him. Also, either he gets rid of his coordinators or he goes. I think some of the big wigs may force his hands about this. Is ack loyal enough to lose his sweet job? Personally, I would rather he go. Alot of Sooners and Ags say "keep Mack" they rarely say "your team just isn't talented." I've never heard a Horn say "keep Stoops. F#$% that, I want him gone and I'd be happy to throw in some money for the move. OSU fired a very successful John Cooper (winning percentage). They knew that he would never take them to a MNC and decided to head in a different direction. Right now, Mack Brown is John Cooper without the conference titles.
There's definitely a possibility. The following six teams can beat us: KSU OU OSU A&M Tech NU and that is not including a bowl opponent.
I have this feeling that we'll beat KSU. An OU loss is a foregone conclusion. I wouldn't bet even money that we would go 3-1 in those last 4 either. But watch. We'll beat Tulane and Rice in the next few weeks (while rushing for less than 4 ypc mind you), and the MNC talks will start again.
I think the Horns will loose at least 3 more games this year. They just aren't tough up front on either side of the football.
Greg Davis is still a major problem at UT. When the other team has 8 men in the box, as Arkansas did for most of the day, you throw the ball. You don't try to run Benson with 5 blockers trying to block 8 guys. UT has the best receivers in the country, but they can't do anything unless you chuck it. Mack Brown is a great coach every day of the week except Saturday. DD
Can't we change Mack Brown's job title to President of Recruting and GET A GODDAMNED FOOTBALL COACH WHO KNOWS HOW TO F*CKING COACH A FOOTBALL TEAM???? I'm sorry, but I am pissed off at this one. The Longhorns vulnerabilities were exposed to the world today, and their biggest vulnerability is Mack Brown. He is one of the worst game day football coaches since Bill Petersen.
Tommy Tuberville at Auburn is the same exact way. Great recruiter......terrible gameday coach. Same thing with Jim Donnan at Georgia as well. But seriously, for you Longhorn fans, would you rather wait three or four more years for a new coach to get his program built up or simply give Brown another chance? If you get a new coach, it will take time for him to adjust, install his system, get used to recruiting in the state and building confidence with his charges. Seriously, though, Arkansas is a good team. You weren't beaten by a two-bit patsy, but one that last season won their last five conference games in the toughest conference in football and played in the SEC Championship game (overmatched against a UGA team that was the best in recent memory). They have one of the best motivators and game day coaches in Houston Nutt (his brother is a basketball coach and his name, seriously, is Dickie Nutt. Is that not a ready-made joke or what?) and have recruited well in recent years. So don't act like this was some kind of huge upset, as if Rice or Vanderbilt beat them. The SEC, with Auburn and Ole Miss excused, has shown in non-conference play they are the top conference from top to bottom with South Carolina's thrashing of top 25 foe Virginia last week, UGA's convincing butt-whipping of Clemson in week one, Alabama's near upset last week against # 1 Oklahoma and LSU's dismantling of a decent Arizona team. Add the win over Texas by Arkansas and you have a good showing so far this season.
bamaslamer, The difference is that A&M will be handing us our A$$ soon as Franchione is a MUCH better coach then Brown. Also, if you get a young coach like Stoops to come in, he can take the current talent to that championship level. Brown is an idiot...and I hate hearing his excuses, anyone that has ever watched a few games of football can see that he can't make adjustments. Pathetic.... DD
I don't think Arkansas exposed us this time, I think theey did it last time we played. Texas's problem is that they can't run the ball and they can't stop the run. I think Tulsa ran for 200 against Arkansas. Although we beat teams like Tulane and Baylor handily, we can'trun on them either. NMSU was running on us early, so why not Arkansas? bama, I'm not saying to fire Mack yet, but either his coordinators go or he goes. As per Stoops, he called about the job when it was open. DKR told him "you ain't got nuff skins on the wall son." I think Stoops has enough now, huh? Alot of coaches would have jumped at the chance at coaching at UT. I'm sure alot of coaches still would jump at the chance.
Calm down Texas Exes. This will be a LONG, long season. Next year will be the same. Here's a brief history of the Mack Brown tenure. I will give him the benefit of the doubt on his first season, since those were mostly Mackovic players: 1999: NC State * KSU Texas A&M * Nebraska (Big 12 Championship) Arkansas (Cotton Bowl) * 2000: Stanford * Oklahoma Oregon * 2001: Oklahoma Colorado * 2002: Oklahoma * Texas Tech * 2003: Arkansas * I have placed an asterisk by every game that Texas was favored, or should have won. Mack Brown has never won a conference championship in his 20+ years of coaching. Until we get a new head coach, try not to get excited about the season. We've had the same problems for 5 years now. We've recruited the best athletes in the country, and turned them into mediocre football players. The following problems have not been addressed in the 5 years that Mack has been here: 1. Running the football 2. Blocking 3. Getting penetration from the front four 4. Stopping the run 5. Poor tackling
Baqui, your above post should be posted at hornfans. They would agree with it. This is as good as it gets. Oh, and I caught the end of Longhorn Sportscenter, and Mck said he was proud of the ASSISTANT COACHES!!! Fire him and the assistants now!
