What's funny is that I've heard both. I've talked to guys in the military that said they respected them and I've talked to others that said they laugh at them. FWIW, none of them had any ties to UT or any other rival school.
No its not. Their little corp is a joke. They serve no purpose except to dress up. And no I didn't go to UT.
One of my relatives is a captain in the navy, watched the UT-ATM game with him over Thanksgiving. He said he's had a ton of aggie officers serve under him on his carrier - said they were "great officers". I'll trust his opinion. I did go to UT, btw.
McClain talked about this in his morning show on 610. Basically said there is no possible way A&M will sue, said A&M is getting publicity which is a good thing. Also joked that A&M is playing better defense on this than they did the entire season.
Perhaps the Aggies who actually join the military are good guys but the aggy who play army in Corps are the joke.
I guess, we recruited well the past three years and have nothing to show for it. Apparently with these coaches it doesn't matter
Fair. I honestly didn't know that they allowed dudes to stay in the corps who aren't planning on doing active duty or the reserves. They call 'em "Drill and Ceremony" cadets. That's freakin' weak. I have no idea what percentage of cadets fall in this category though.
Just to be more specific. Aggies ranking in recruiting going back to 2002 (according to Rivals). 2002 23rd 2003 10th 2004 13th 2005 8th 2006 currently 25th So, while recruiting could always be better, it definitely hasn't been the problem in recent years.
Aggies on this board, there is no sense in trying to talk to a bunch of arrogant d*ckhead sips. Hell even the wanna-be sips are parading around and talking noise like they just graduated from that school or were 'bent over' by mack brown himself. The truth is, as much as any of us Aggies may hate the burnt orange cows, there is a contingent of cows that hate the Aggies right back. That is understandable, that is what rivalries are all about. We are obviously outnumbered around the state since their bandwagon fans have grown exponentially since their recent success in football. Hell, even their basketball and baseball teams have brought more "fans" to the table for the sip circle jerk. So, it's futile to argue, hell it's futile to bring common sense b/c some people are so ignorant and yet stringent, they won't listen...but I'll give it my best shot. Any argument we may provide in trying to defend a tradition that we have a right to, they will come up w/ an excuse. So, Seattle, the first time their franchise has ever gone to the superbowl, and the 8th time they have ever made the playoffs since they stole the 12th man from A&M, are beating their chests. They are using this as an "us against the world" motivation. So, Paul Allen can sue if someone tries to use a name from one of his microsoft products that he has a trademark on, yet, A&M can't sue when Paul Allen's team, uses "12th man" which we have a trademark on. Even u sips need to see how ridiculous your argument is. Some of u r saying that it's b/c Seattle is a pro team, whereas A&M is college; I'm no lawyer, but that is comparing apples to oranges, and it is still infringing on something we have the rights to. If you cow and cow wannabes had something trademarked and lets say the Texans came in and took it, playing it off as their own, u all would be downright pissed too. And u all who are saying that b/c A&M hasn't been good lately, therefore they lose what they own to a team that is in the superbowl this year is downright idiotic. Going back to Paul Allen, lets say Microsoft stock starts to plummet and Paul is in the poor house. If some upstart company comes in and starts using the name "windows" on their product, that company would get sued hardcore. Performance is not a determining factor of whether or not your trademark has teeth and using that as a reason is myopic and makes u look like a dumb@ss. Now, I don't know why this is all coming to light. Maybe it's b/c seattle and it's fans have sucked for so long that no one really paid attention to what they called themselves up there. They could each call themselves Jesus, but no one would care until now, now that they are on the biggest stage. Honestly, I didn't know what the fans called themselves until the announcers kept using it over and over again, then that's when this can of worms got opened. The way I understand trademarks and copyrights is that a company can't use trademark or copyrighted term w/o the permission of the originator. So the fans can call themselves whatever they want, but the minute the company uses it, it is grounds for lawsuit. So, if people want to make tshirts calling themselves "thelfth man" they are only allowed to give them away. I'm sure this will all get settle after the superbowl. Paul Allen doesn't want to go to court, no matter how much the sips want to dog anything Texas A&M.
I think the issue with regard to the lawsuit is the time frame of the copyright. If Paul Allen tried to sue someone for using the Windows name BEFORE he had trademarked "Windows," he would be laughed at, too.
Ok, but here's the difference. If the Texans came in and copied something from the University of Texas - we'd get them to stop. But it wouldn't be the same as with Seattle because - 1) We wouldn't wait fifteen years after we got ur trademark to make it an issue; 2) The Texas trademark would predate the Texans use of what was borrowed.
Damn, do they not teach the use of paragraphs at A&M? That post was pretty much unreadable. I'm not from Texas and I could care less about any rivalry between the Horns and the Aggies; however, I do find it very funny that the Seahawks have been *supposedly* using 12th Man references since the '80s and yet it has taken A&M all this time to cause a stir about it. Why did A&M not put a stop to this back in the '80s when the Seahawks were first doing this? Is it because the Seahawks were a lousy team and A&M was going to bowl games every season instead of finishing seasons at 5-6? Hmmmmm.... And as I said for the record, I could care less about the silly rivalry, so spare me this "YOU SUCK YOU SIP" or whatever Aggies say to Horn fans to make themselves feel better. I'm just pointing out how ridiculous this "story" looks to people outside of Texas.
How many of you knew that Seattle was calling themselves the 12th man? Seriously. I've been a die hard football fan and graduated from A&M in 2004 and never knew about this. I think it all blew up this year b/c I think A&M got proof that the Seattle organization was using the 12th man moniker. If it's the fans, u can't do anything about them, but the organization, u damn well can. No one can trademark a number, 12 is ubiquitous and no one can own that, that's y the stadium has just a flag w/ a 12 on it, but no name. It has been said though that various restaurants and activities have had the 12th man name and were affiliated w/ the seattle seahawks, which is a big no no. Please though, keep looking for more ways to negatively spin A&M. Seattle is gonna milk it for all they can, like I said, this will all likely get handled after the superbowl.
