If the Big 12 goes away Baylor will fall further into oblivion than UofH.

i've been lurking this thread, don't know how i feel. love the rivalry. oh well. anyway i agree with cuban, what is the appeal in super conferences. his overall point seems to be logistics. i totally agree, always thought so. always thought twelve was the max, thought the bigxii and sec's formula was perfect. six games in division, two out of division.

and lets not get into fringe sports. i guess they matter anyway

So...this is what we are left with...

    1. NU and CU leave to get a better deal.

    2. Texas abandons their bright idea re PAC 16 so they can have their network with ESPN.

    3. Texas and ESPN lie to the other Big XII members about their intentions to have conference football games and HS sports on LHN. Big XII members agree to stay on...all the while conference football games and HS sports are in the 2010 LHN contract...hmmm.

    4. The real intentions come to light, and A&M calls Mike Slive to rekindle last year's talks.

    5. Texas and Baylor freak out and threaten lawsuits, legislative action, fire and brimstone and dogs and cats living together if A&M leaves.

    6. A&M leaves.

    7. All the threats cease when Texas assures all that Big XII will survive without A&M (they'll just go get Notre Dame).

    8. OU looks around and says "we're going to get out too." Now all the threats are back.

    9. Texas has to either find a way to force the conference back together, go indy or ditch the network and go to the PAC.

How many miscalculations, broken promises and flubs can Deloss Dodds make without this blowing up in his face?

As for the other Big XII members?

    1. Iowa State will likely have to go mid major.
    2. Kansas and K-State will likely go Big East or ACC on the strength of their basketball programs.
    3. Missouri will likely land in either the Big 10 or SEC.
    4. Baylor will likely have to go to the Mtn West or WAC.

Somehow I am sure this is A&M's fault though. Riiiiiiight...

Agreed. Max is a very even guy when he argues a point. He is a lot more cerebral when it comes to these things than I am.

Is misspelling Aggie supposed to be some kind of insult? It just appears to be a misspelled word.

I think K-State is going to be tied to Kansas, which is the real prize.

I think K-State is in the same boat as Baylor and will end up on the outside looking in. There really isn't much attractive about them. KU will probably end up in the Big East because of their basketball program. I doubt Kansas has the leverage to demand the Big East (or anyone else) take K-State along with them. Hopefully (for KU's sake) Kansas politicians realize that.

Refman, I guess it depends on how big a "prize" KU is (not much IMO) and if they have options besides the Big East.

KU is one of the 3 or 4 storied basketball programs in the country. I would have to think that they get an invite to a premier basketball conference like the Big East or the ACC.

I agree KU will be fine, just saying they won't be able to save KSU.

A move to the Mountain West wouldn't be the end of the world but I'm still hoping Baylor somehow gets a Big East or ACC invite. Maybe it's just wishful thinking but I think the athletic program brings something to the table.

Top-notch sports and academic facilities - check

Top 10 mens basketball team - check

#1 womens basketball team - check

Ranked football team - we'll find out but I think it'll be a check very soon

Being a Baptist school will not help them, it was a big sticking point with the Pac 12 last year.

They have no chance to get an ACC invite because there are far more attractive programs in the Big East for them to raid. Maybe there's a slim and none chance the Big East would call Baylor.

    [Donny's Agenda]

I think the bolded part is bullplop that doesn't make sense. A&M leaving has nothing to do with UT's obligation to act in the best interest of other state universities, it just means they no longer have to consider A&M in that part of the equation.

    On a related note:

    http://www.texastribune.org/texas-e...he-recs-lawmakers-well-educated-report-finds/

Cliff's Notes: UH has the 2nd most alumni in the TX legislature behind UT. A much different story inside and out than when the SWC broke up, I tell ya whut.
