Not for nothin', and I'm a UH guy, so I don't have a side in this... But I hear this all the time, that A&M is obsessed with UT based on their fight song. BUT, A&M is mentioned in the UT Fight Song lyrics too. So, we really need to retire that plot point. "Texas Fight" Texas Fight! Texas Fight! And it's goodbye to A & M. Texas Fight! Texas Fight! And we'll put over one more win. Texas Fight! Texas Fight! For it's Texas that we love best. Hail, Hail, the gang's all here, And it's goodbye to all the rest! Yea, Orange! Yea, White! Yea, Longhorns! Fight! Fight! Fight! Texas Fight! Texas Fight! Yea, Texas Fight! Texas Fight! Texas Fight! Yea, Texas Fight! The 'Eyes of Texas' are upon you, All the live long day! The 'Eyes of Texas' are upon you, You cannot get away! Texas Fight! Texas Fight! For it's Texas that we love best! Hail, Hail, the gang's all here! And it's goodbye to all the rest!
how is any rivalry going to stop? where has A&M indicated it does not want to continue to play UT every year in every sport? only UT has indicated that it would not continue to play the rivalry, so... not sure what your point is.
considering nothing official has happened yet, it's quite premature to blame ut for this rivalry not continuing if it doesn't. i think it's safe to say that it won't for a while for whatever reason. one of those reasons could be that a&m wouldn't want to play a school like texas as a non-conference game when they have to go through a brutal sec schedule. they're no sfa, you know. a better choice of words on my part would have been "schools that have been in the same conference for nearly 100 years don't split up every year". better?
All we have to go on is what school officials have said. Last we've heard from A&M, they want to play UT every year. Last we've heard from UT (which was like, a year ago), they threatened to "never play A&M again in any sport, ever". So, just going by the facts bro. But yeah, 100 years of being in the same conference, but does that really matter to anyone as long as they continue to play each other? I'd venture not, as long as the Big 12 doesn't go t*** up if A&M leaves (which it won't, unless UT decides to kill it... that's the thing about having that much power, you end up with a lot of responsibility too). I just find all this moaning about loyalty high-larious from a disaffected SWC school's standpoint. Sack up, y'all. Dis is bidness.
I don't understand why UT fans care...been hearing for years that 1.) the real rivalry is with OU and 2.) A&M is obsessed with Texas. So cheer up! Worst case you are losing a lame-ass rival and obsessive stalker.
Also, Sources tell Orangebloods.com Texas would seek to replace #TAMU with Notre Dame on Thanksgiving night if Aggies leave #Big12. #hookem Spoiler Caution, it's Chip Brown
Ya, we b****ed and moaned quite a bit (and still proudly do!) But, if A&M leaves, it won't kill UT/Big 12. Unlike when the SWC breakup happened, which damned near killed UH's athletics altogether (all for the sake of protecting the interest of a private school, no less). So, our b****ing is a little more substantiated than just "but we like pounding you guys in the butt every year, don't leave!"
LOL. Damn Aggies trying to ruin the rivalry by forcing UT to play Notre Dame on Thanksgiving! #hookgigderpem
Yes, Texas mentions A&M once in their fight song.... But the entire A&M fight song is about Texas!!! They actually sing the Eyes of Texas to mock UT in their own fight song. They put bumper stickers on their cars with the Horns sawed off...when they score a TD on Baylor, they throw up the Horns down... honestly, it's the biggest inferiority complex in all of sports. Worse than Red Sox fans to Yankee fans even. The entire culture is as much about NOT being Texas as it is about being A&M.
there is light years of difference between any UT/A&M being lost and any rivarly UH claimed from the SWC. By the time UH even joined the SWC, the other members had been playing each other for about 60 years.
I think a point that any A&M fans need to remember is that when it came to big 12 politics over the past 15 years, A&M has voted with Texas in 99% of every issue. They weren't like Nebraska or Colorado and complaining about everything Texas/the Big 12 did until the "big longhorn network wanted to broadcast high school football games". I can't wait to see how many new recruits Texas gets this weekend when we broadcast the volleyball games on the longhorn network!!
Guys... nobody cares about the fight songs. Why does this keep getting brought up? Its a fight song someone chose a long time ago. ITS JUST A FREAKING FIGHT SONG PEOPLE. Nobody cares. Sheesh.
I pretty much agree with 100% of everything DonnyMost says in this thread. We're on the same page. Thank God he's not an Aggie (shows he's unbiased) and can articulate his thoughts better because he isn't annoyed with pretty much everyone like I am. Simply put, again, just let TAMU do what's best for TAMU and let them go.
