Read on another site that the settlement came simultaneously with new TV money and promises for the future so they were pretty lenient. Don't see them doing the same for A&M since they just committed to the new Big 12/TV deal just a year ago and will be leaving on bad terms. Also, don't forget that A&M was the only school that did not want to split the exit fees evenly among the teams.
that's my point...i haven't seen the agreement. i don't know enough to speculate one way or the other. could read one way...could read another.
Right, I followed that, which is why I used the word "magically" -- I just feel it would be a great fit for both sides. I don't follow why the Pac wouldn't want Tech though, but I understand that is the sentiment.
right? it was my understanding that ut had made everyone in the league their gimps to do with as they please whilst the state legislature anally raped the rest of the schools like they were big black gangsters with band-aids on the back of their necks.
Okay, so now lets look at things from a new angle... Houston, Dallas, Austin, the rest of Texas -- they're filled with SEC alums. During my time at TAMU, the only team that traveled well, got there early, stayed late, and partied all night was Nebraska. They filled the city up with fans of all ages from Thursday - Sunday. They tore the city up. OU and UT weren't too shabby. But now you'd have SEC football in Texas. A completely different beast. Mega-fan-bases. You're replacing Iowa State, Kansas, Baylor, with Alabama, LSU, Florida. Every conference game at Kyle Field would turn into a mini-Super Bowl. What does this do for the city of College Station? How much more revenue do they generate? More importantly, what does this mean for the value of my town house in CS? Hehe.
How are you concluding there are tons of SEC folks here? I always see LSU folks. But the other schools? Rarely...
All I know was they took that nonsense to another thread and that thread got derailed into mindless jibberish. Didn't want that here. I think that is fair enough. I've been calling the Big 12 reactionary for 2 years now. They are behind the bar, they'll always be run like a second rate conference. What teams are they going to bring in to make it 16? UH? Rice? Tulane? C'mon. They cant poach good programs like the Pac 12, Big 10 or SEC.
I don't think there's any truth to this, but a new scenario was posted in the Dallas Observer this morning. http://www.dallasobserver.com/2011-...e-big-12-the-joke-s-on-texas-a-amp-m-again/2/ Personally, I'd love this. It would be strong in all three sports, travel would be easier than the current Big XII, and it would create a monster Texas-centric division that could potentially counter A&M's move to the SEC. A&M would be the only legit Texas program not in this conference (sorry Rice), and that could heavily work against them in the long run. Suddenly, they'd go from a special option in a power conference to an outcast within the state. Very powerful for kids who value Texas football. All that being said, there is a slim to none chance we could ever get Arkansas or UNC to be on board with this. But dreaming is fun...
It has been the second best football conference for a while. You know why? This might hurt but it's bc of Texas and Oklahoma. Like I mentioned, four teams aside from A&M are in the top 25. The Pac 10/12 ain't gonna do squat with USC's suspension. The Big 10 has its own problems with their best program getting busted too. They produce some snoozers anyway. You're kidding yourself if you think that the Big 12-2 can't attract decent schools. The above post has some nice candidates. Soooo sorry that the Big 12-2 wasn't good enough for Aggies. I mean...some would think that your football program could have accomplished more in such a weak, bottom-tier conference
I can't see why UND signs on to anchor that crap division, might as well just sign on to the Big 10Legend/leades/whatever. if the ACC goes kaput, there's some excellent academic schools there that would be valuable partners for UND/UT, (as if that actually mattered, but whatever).
Agreed for the most part. Maybe a bit of bama too. But outside of bama/lsu I don't think CS is gonna be more packed than it would for a game vs UT or TT, maybe even Baylor. LSU would be sold out for sure though.
