Crimney, those dudes really don't want to let the ND dream go eh?

I'll say this much though, of course the out of state schools don't want UH, but a Texas school left, and it will be said that a Texas school must/should replace them. UH doesn't have a lot of friends in the Big 12, but we do have some more voices in Austin now, and they will be looking out for the 3rd largest state school in Texas before they go chasing out of state butterflies like Notre Dame and BYU. UT (i.e. the legislature who controls their decisions) holds the trump card, if they want us, we get in. No matter who b****es and moans.

I can promise you that UT and BU are "friends" to UH right now. My understanding is they absolutely are.

The dream of ND is a UT dream...not a BU dream...just to be clear. An alliance between those two schools is hardly far-fetched, particularly since being in the same conference assures they get to double-dip conference and independent network TV money.

Oohhhhh..one more nugget. Apparently TCU is reaching out to the Big XII. We'll see.

Why are out-of-state Big 12 schools against UH?

UT, maybe, but Baylor and Tech would be a hard sell. But if our in-state chums want to help us out, I'm all for it.. But like I said, UT runs the show. UH has a lot more power in Austin than it did when the SWC broke up. They will stick up for us, unless Notre Dame basically throws itself at a Big 12 proposal (which would shower TTU/UT/BU in straight cash homie). But I still think that is total pie in the sky.

If the alternatives like ND say no, would they be open to UH?

I'm hearing BU folks are already going to bat for UH. Just sayin. Again, I haven't seen that first-hand.

Their wish list goes like this:

    ND, BYU, Air Force, UH.

But I also understand their wish list has about 20 schools on it....soooooo...not sure if that's entirely accurate or accounts for all institutions.

Less Texas schools in the conference is good for them.

Plus UH brings very little to the Big 12 initially. It would be an investment that wouldn't pay dividends for 5+ years.

A school like BYU or Louisville would bring more to the table financially and would balance out the power of states. And Notre Dame would make it rain on them hoes.

hooking up with UT and the State of Texas generally wouldn't exactly be bad business for ND, either.

    AGAIN..I'M NOT SAYING THAT'S GOING TO HAPPEN...JUST REPORTING WHAT I'M HEARING. :)

I can't see that conference being strong/appealing enough for Notre Dame to want to hitch its wagon to it, even if it did mean they could double dip.

The old Big 12, maybe. The new Big 12, eh.

    automatic BCS bid

    conference $$$$

    independent $$$$

easier path back to BCS games, perhaps

already in place at first 16 team superconference

    paired with UT

play in Texas (in front of TX recruits and their families) year in and year out

not saying it will happen..but i don't think it's nearly as unattractive as you do. we're not talking about them adding ND, alone...the discussion is about them pairing up with UT to create a new 16 team conference, which would include the 9 remaining Big 12 schools (sans A&M) or the 10 Big 12 schools assuming A&M wants in.

LOL, look at what you guys are talking about now. There are no reports anywhere about a 16 team super conference being formed by the Big 12. Make a rumors thread or something. I'd put my money on the Big 12 dissolving before it turns into a "super conference".

Isn't this basically a rumor thread? Nothing is official until it's official.

I think the Big 12 continues to be the second best football conference. That's with or without A&M. They will plug in some good schools but only time will tell.

Oh yeah, right, TAMU to the SEC has no merit. Complete wild rumor. No major media outlets reported on it. Just some weird internet forum guys letting their imagination get out of hand.

I didn't use the word wild. You did. The point still being that it will seemingly take weeks, months, to years to get this all ironed out. You have no clue on if the Big 12 - 2, 3 will manage to survive. Nor do I. I think some great schools would want to join the conference. Even without A&M, the Big 12-2 has 2 in the top ten (OU, OSU) and 2 more in the top 25 (Missouri and Texas). Now, all of a sudden the big 12 isn't good enough for Aggies. Give me a break. I've seen it referred to as the little 12 in this thread.

everything you just wrote is arguable another direction...not sure it's worth the discussion. there are valid arguments for and against joining any conference. i doubt seriously administrators at these schools will be checking in on Clutchfans for advice :)

again, i have no idea directly what the contact is, except to say it's between UT and ND. i have very little reason to doubt that contact is happening or has happened, frankly.
