considering the horns still had a shot in the 4th with a terrible qb under center for most of the game, it's not that absurd to say they could have.

    Explain the absurdity, please.

It is well documented that Gilbert is absolutely horrid, and he brought the team within a field goal with three minutes left. 'Bama/aggy fans will counter with, "well we didn't run our offense in the second half!!!" to which I respond, "Did you see Texas's offense in the first half?"

No guarantees that Colt would have won, but to say "that is utterly absurd" is 100% maroon bias.

sigh. How many times have I been in this argument with people on this board. "We would of won with Colt McCoy didn't get hurt" Blah blah blah blah BULL$#@!. Once Bama knew that you had a second string quarterback(Who they almost knocked out of the game as well) they just ran the ball every play. McElroy only threw the ball 11 times that game and all we did was run the ball down the throat of the "Number 1 ranked rushing Defense in the country". They game would of been played much more differently if McCoy didn't get hurt but Bama would of still won.

Would you really want McElroy throwing more than that? Just ridiculous to think that losing one of the most prolific quarterbacks in college history for a true freshman wouldn't affect the outcome of the game. Not to mention, we had called a perfect game to that point. Bama would have been down 10-0 or 14-0, and would have had to pass all game to catch up.

To me, it's clear that Texas wins with a healthy Colt McCoy. Alas, he wasn't healthy, and Bama won.

Fact - Going from one of the top QB's in the country to a freshman that barely played makes a huge difference in the game. What was the score when Colt went down? I don't see how anyone could predict what would have happened if he never got hurt.

Fact - Bama has the title and injuries are part of the game, so oh well.

Fact - It's absurd to say it's absurd to think that a team with one of the best QBs in the country instead of a backup that never played may have won.

That picture is hilarious. Do you have a link?

McElroy wasn't nearly as bad as a QB as everyone thought he was. Sure he had that stretch of games where he preformed poorly during the middle of the season(Ole miss, South Carolina and Tennessee) but he he fit our offense perfectly. His 11 attempts were by far the lowest of any game(Excluding games we blew out the other team) Also, he ended up having the 3rd highest completion rating by any QB in SEC history.

I'm not saying his a Colt McCoy but he wasn't nearly as bad as everyone made him out to be. He fit our offense well and did what he had needed to do if order for us to win.

Ummm I did not say its absurd to say that they might have won because they may very well have ... It is absolutely absurd to say they "could have beaten Bama fairly easily" if Colt didn't get hurt.

I think Texas definitely could have won the game, but to say they would have beaten Bama fairly easily in a national championship game is absurd at all levels.

If you want to think that is maroon glasses then go ahead. I for one wanted to see Colt in the game because I wanted a good NC game.

He really was? Seemed overrated to me, along with the rest of the Big 12 QBs (including McGee). Oh well.

ncaa leader in wins and ut leading td scorer of all-time. highest single season completion % in ncaa history. only ncaa qb to have 10 wins in four seasons and tied for most tds thrown by a freshman in ncaa history. but yeah, him and garrett gilbert are interchangeable.

Yes, he is the current all-time leader in NCAA wins with 45. Although, it looks like Kellen Moore of Boise will pass him this year.

His 2008 season also broke the single season completion percentage record. By over 4%.

There's a lot of things to say about Colt, but it is a huge stretch to call a 3-star who accomplished all he did "overrated."

I'll say again (since my source was maligned before :) ) that I do NOT know what I'm about to share first-hand...

Hearing that most likely scenario is A&M does NOT go to the SEC.

Hearing that Big 12 is working super hard on contingency plans in case though...and that there is discussion amongst ND and UT for formation of 16 team conference with the 9 remaining....and that might not be a contingency plan just for A&M leaving, but rather something that happens regardless. May work to
make Big 12 more attractive to A&M, as well.

Big 12 schools out of state do not want UH.

They were on the way to spanking them with Colt in the game. It's not as absurd as you're making it out to be. Winning by 7-10 + points would have constituted as fairly easily.
