I definitly see the SEC's reasons, just think A&M is making a hasty decision, they don't have to stay with Texas, but they don't have to go to a conference in which they will struggle to compete either. DD
TAMU was looking out for its best interests, it found a cultural and geographical home, meanwhile, the Big 12 nearly implodes. They did the right thing. They found a landing spot and stayed out of the turmoil, until Baylor dragged em' back in.
I think A&M actually hurt itself on the national and local recruiting stage, because they will instantly go from a team that can compete in the Big 12 to one that can not compete in the SEC. No one wants to play for a loser. DD
Again, there's the fallacy -- that TAMU is incapable of becoming a competitive program. 1. They have top tier resources -- facilities, recruiting pool and fanbase 2. They've been good in the past 3. They hire a good coach, now they're good 4. They are ranked in the top 10 in recruiting for 2012, (3rd or 4th in the SEC) 5. There are countless instances of schools improving, you are never stuck By your logic Texas couldn't compete in the SEC because they're having a down period.
I think Texas would struggle in the SEC too, not as much as A&M, but surely would not be King there. I would think it would benefit A&M to go somewhere that they are royalty, rather than just courtiers. DD
A&M, as far as from an institutional standpoint, will instantly become a very well respected and represented member of the SEC. On the field, who cares. A&M is going somewhere they can have more influence and more compensation. That's the real driving factor here. The SEC is about as equitable and stable of a conference as you're going to find, not to mention lucrative.
3 is the one that makes me sad. TAMU now has to carry the conference academically. Its still the best fit culturally and geographically... but still. Oh well.
The stupidity, arrogance and entitlement of Baylor fans has totally changed the way I view the school. This is really sad for me.
They're just scared of landing back into complete obscurity. My sister, wife, and some other family members went there - I've had to bite my tongue a few times as a couple of them "defended" their status based on their women's basketball, men's baseball, and tennis teams.
yeah, i know. baylor is the only school in the entire ncaa who shouldn't look out for its own interests. dumb ****ing baptists.
Yeah despite their current rank, they will lose 5 games this year. No one here even goes to the games. Yet all of a sudden they are the loudest mouths?
What about men's basketball? I don't think our 17th and rising ranked football team is something to gloat about. It's taken some time but we're finally making a small come-up in our football program. It doesn't look like we're a basement program any longer. There are inferior athletic programs in major conferences all over the country. And CaseyH. I'm not trolling. I've decided to mostly reply to your cry baby, bitter posts with GIF's.
