very trustworthy. i'm not saying what is there is gospel and WILL HAPPEN FOR SURE! i'm saying it's coming from people who are in the discussion.
That's what sucks about this. This could have been avoided if the commissioner was aggressive in adding schools last summer.
and about 30 minutes after my friend emails me, chip posts this: http://texas.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=1267981 September 20, 2011 Chip Brown Orangebloods.com Columnist Talk about it in Inside the 40 Acres There is a serious effort being made, led by Missouri chancellor Brady Deaton, to try to save the Big 12, according to a high-placed administrator at a Big 12 school. It will either be the Big 12's Hail Mary or its last gasp. The administrator said Deaton, the head of the Big 12's five-member expansion committee, is trying to get everyone back to the table to try to see if the Big 12 can work out its differences. A regent at another Big 12 school said he he was optimistic the conference could heal its problems. Oklahoma State mega booster Boone Pickens was quoted by The Oklahoman saying Pickens had called Texas Gov. Rick Perry, a former yell leader at Texas A&M, to try and fix the Big 12, including keeping the Aggies from bolting for the Southeastern Conference. But Texas A&M spokesman Jason Cook released a statement to Orangebloods.com that said, "Texas A&M has made our intentions perfectly clear. We do not intend to be a member of the Big 12 past this season." The question then becomes if Texas, Oklahoma and Oklahoma State can live together in a nine-member Big 12? And The Oklahoman quotes an unnamed, high-ranking Big 12 source as saying Oklahoma has a list of demands to hold the Big 12 together, including replacing commissioner Dan Beebe and for Texas to make some concessions as it pertains to the Longhorn Network. The newspaper quotes sources saying OU was angered by ESPN getting a waiver from Fox to show a second game on the Longhorn Network and surprising the rest of the conference with the news. The sources also tell the Oklahoman OU was upset when ESPN vowed to show high school highlights even after it was deemed impermissible by the NCAA to show high school games on LHN. In general, the sources tell The Oklahoman, the Big 12 has a big trust problem that has to be rectified. The Oklahoman also quotes a source saying Dan Beebe only serves one school - Texas. The newspaper reports, ironically, Texas supported Jack Swarbrick as commissioner of the Big 12 and OU supported Beebe when Beebe was awarded the job as leader of the Big 12. Swarbrick is now the athletic director at Notre Dame. Sources across the Big 12 confirm to Orangebloods.com that there is definitely a movement to try to save the Big 12 led by Deaton that may involve some radical proposals. We will have more details as they become available. A high-ranking official at a Big 12 school said, "The Big 12 is going to stay intact except for Texas A&M." We will see if that's wishful thinking and the Big 12's Hail Mary - one year after a similar rescue attempt was successful - or if it's the Big 12's last gasp. Stay tuned.

I read Nate's thing and a lot of his assumptions don't make a lot of sense (and his data set has SERIOUS issues and is self-admittedly inaccurate but that's another matter). His whole thing about "googling "college football '" is just dumb, especially since he seems to magicallly give it a 1:1 ratio assuming it's a perfect indicator for intensity of fan support - it's not. I mean I casn't remember the last time I did that - basically I don't know any hardcore fan who would do that to get to info they need. It actually sounds like something my Dad (63) would do. However I can tell you that I watch a lot more CFB than he does. Secondly even if it is an indicator of general interest, the correlation isn't as strong as he thinks it is, certainly not 1:1. Frankly there's not a whole lot else on TV during Fall Saturdays, and a casual viewer in Manhattan who chances upon a game counts the same as a grown man in Manhattan, KS wearing a purple wildcats jersey with his name on it - I'm surprised he didn't just total up Nielsen ratings instead which seems to be a much better judge of who watches what. Finally , if you're advertising, would you rather be selling to 100 people in morgantown making 25,000 or 50 people in NYC making 100,000? That's an exaggeration of course but it's an obvious consideration.
laugh at BU all you want...but if this holds, BU will erect a shrine to Starr. the delay MAY have just saved them.
Makes sense. Is this a negotiated "merger" with the Big East or a complete demolition of their football conference by the Little 12?

How do y'all gig'ms feel? I was/am incredibly excited about the SEC. So excited. But this new Big 12, with BYU & WVU AND a new commish AND a watered down LHN is pretty appealing. Its obviously a more manageable schedule that the SEC and easy to grow to 16. Oh well. I'm happy with the SEC.
True but those are big concessions, it is sad that it took the brink of death and Texas to realize nobody wanted to love them if they can't play fair. Nobody other than Dan Beebe killed the Big 12 or caused all of this....nobody. TAMU should sue their ass on the way out. For whatever they will lose by not playing on t-day. (assuming they don't) No matter what any of you say if this had been handled correctly and TAMU and NEB had of stayed the big 12 would be way better off than with TCU and WVU being in. Even without NEB and TAMU staying it was still better off. If TCU losses on a consistent basis which could happen playing a much harder schedule that "potential" revenue they have will die faster than it got there. They do not have the following people think. I don't care about what people were or even what they are in terms of wins and losses. You want to know the worth or value of a school? it is the ability to sell almost 90k tickets to a game vs. Idaho. Nobody other than Neb can do that. WVU is close but its not that.
SoonerScoop SoonerScoop.com by ChrisLevel OU administration has always been adamant that Beebe served at conference member's direction. Now he's the problem? Right.
I don't hate this new option and would not be too upset if we somehow stayed but too much damage has been done. It took a freaking miracle to get to this point TAMU did the best they could with what they had at the time. I am happy with the SEC
Texas A&M will sue Texas/Big 12 for not playing them on Thanksgiving Day under the contract that Texas A&M just threw a giant temper tantrum to be let out of? Help me out on that one Perry Mason.
MU Board of Curators just announced a public meeting for Thursday morning. Whatever happens, hopefully it'll go down this week.
