Ok, so we have one example of how UH does when playing one of the upper tier Big 12 schools. How do those numbers compare to the Louisville and Cincy numbers in their markets?
We'll see where Pitt ends up after all. The ACC makes a LOT more sense than the Little 12. This would just about kill the Big East. Maybe the leftover remains of two dying conferences can combine to raise them both from the dead. http://www.nytimes.com/2011/09/17/sports/ncaafootball/syracuse-and-pitt-in-talks-with-acc.html September 16, 2011 Syracuse and Pitt in Talks With A.C.C. By PETE THAMEL Syracuse University and the University of Pittsburgh, two bedrock members of the Big East Conference, are engaged in talks about joining the Atlantic Coast Conference, according to a person with direct knowledge of the talks. No one from Pittsburgh, Syracuse or the A.C.C. denied the conversations were taking place. Officials from all three entities declined to comment on the matter. The person with knowledge of the talks declined to speculate on a timetable or the seriousness of the discussions. But in this delicate time for conferences and their futures, the discussions between the 12-team A.C.C. and two Big East members are significant. The talks show how the trend toward 16-team super conferences, which has concerned many college athletic officials, appears to be inching closer to reality. If Syracuse and Pittsburgh switch, the move will be difficult for the Big East to overcome. Syracuse is a founding member, and Pittsburgh joined the league in 1982, three years after it formed. The Pittsburgh chancellor, Mark Nordenberg, who is widely credited with saving the Big East after Boston College, Miami and Virginia Tech moved to the A.C.C. in the early 2000s, twice declined to comment when reached at his home. Syracuse Athletic Director Daryl Gross, when reached on his cellphone in Los Angeles, where the Orange will play Southern California on Saturday, said: “I can’t comment on that. Maybe that’s even too much to say.” Amy Yakola, the A.C.C.’s associate commissioner for public relations and marketing, said, “We’ve been dealing with the fluidity of the conference landscape on multiple levels for a week, and at this point we wouldn’t be able to comment on speculation.” Big East Commissioner John Marinatto declined to comment when reached on his cellphone. Jim Boeheim, the longtime Syracuse basketball coach, said Friday night, “I wouldn’t be surprised by anything, but I don’t know anything right now.”
I'll be honest I used to SMH at your haters but you have gone over the top. You know nothing about UH football calling for it to go back to the pardee era so it is exciting. (like the current offense is such a boring one) You are unwilling to compare ratings in the regular season when UH plays an actual opponent like Oregon or TTU? Reg season game with actual opponent numbers is the most equal way to compare.
I searched and couldn't find this here. I suppose this would be the best thread for it. I'm sorry if it's already been posted in this giant thread (or elsewhere). I laughed out loud at my desk multiple times while reading this. WHEN THE BAND BROKE UP: THE ORAL HISTORY OF THE BIG 12 http://www.everydayshouldbesaturday...-band-broke-up-the-oral-history-of-the-big-12 I hope y'all have as much fun as I did. Adios, Big XII(10).
Must have been full moon last night, or 2 for 1 PBR night. OK I guess this officially makes me grizzled old fart, but the SWC was good enough, entertaining enough, competitive enough, and had doable travel distances for the minor sports. A Big 12 with TCU, UH, SMU is great league. In it's history, Texas did not dominate versus the field. With OU and TCU in football and baseball and Kansas in basketball they wouldn't in the future either. I know, a Texan getting full of themselves when they are on top is not shocking, but Texas having the Vince Young era and the Colt McCoy era back to back is the exception not the rule. Look at their history, look at last year. These are State of Texas institutions. They are all stronger when they work together. It's better for the State, in promoting State revenues and visibility, keeping high school football strong , keeping our kids at home, and better for their Mommas too. I want my SWC back, with OU OkSt Kan and Missouri if they commit. Rice? I don't know. But they can beat anybody in baseball.
Is there even a hint that UH will get picked up? I only hear it from the grads on 790 and this board. TCU, UTAH got picked up from basically dominating their conference for almost a decade. I do not follow UH football but have they even won that conference in recent history? Everything I've heard granted it changes daily is UT and Baylor to the ACC. OU, Okstate,TTU to the Pac-12 where they will add 1 more to make it 16. Not one mention of UH anywhere seems like to me they only bring a large city to the market
The Big 12 is gone, and frankly even if it stays it is obvious UH will be passed over. It doesn't keep people in this thread from crapping all over UH on a Houston board of all places.
That's their best chance if they just replace the big 12 teams that left but nobody wants to be with Texas so that's not happening. heck after the rumor of UT to the ACC there was a rumor of FSU wanting to leave pretty quickly..........
The ACC doubled its member exit fee to $20 million... between that and the expansion (which looks official, since both schools have applied), I don't think anyone leaves the ACC.
No one is crapping on anything. The point was that in the Houston market, both UT and A&M are bigger draws than UH, which means there is no reason to include them in any discussions, they add no value from a marketing standpoint. I am sorry that it hurts some UH grads feelilngs, but the truth is the truth....and we were just pointing out the facts. You misread the entire thing, re: my point about Pardee, that was the last time UH was relevent on a national level, right now they are just a 2nd or 3rd tier program in regards to people's interests. DD
Read my posts again.....I am not calling for it to go back to Pardee, and you can't tell me that one games ratings are an indicator of how UH draws in the Houston market. This is getting ridiculous, I like UH, but I realize their shortcomings in regards to this conversation. DD
Dude you called for it before. You think they should go back to the run and shoot. It was some thread that mattj started.
That was when what you did on the field took priority. Now how much $$ a school can bring in takes priority, and those other schools don't seem to bring that. No major conference wants those schools. That speaks volumes.
No you specifically said they should go back to the run and shoot. I realize you have made hundreds of thousands of posts and may not remember but you said it. It makes me realize you have no idea about UH football. Which is fine because you don't live here. Also I like football, I go to football games here in Houston. It be Texans, UH or Katy, North Shore whatever.
Ah, yes, I think that would help them get back on the national scene for sure, and a way for them to compete...but that is not what this discussion was about. DD
but you still said it, and it shows how little you know about the team. If UT had this offense (or QB).............ah crap never mind.
No one is talking about UofH's Xs and Os, Casey. This is a conversation about what each university can bring to the table from a business stand point.
The insecurity of Texas Tech denizens with respect to Baylor and Houston produces joy in my heart. As well it should be, their position is quite precarious.
"All hell breaking loose" ACC is super active in looking to expand. I was at my son's football game this morning and my phone must have buzzed every 2 minutes. Bottom line is no one seems to know anything about UT's intent, but seems to be more and more likely leading to ACC. Iowa State and BU have reached out to Big East...BU is hoping to hop on and follow UT east to ACC if UT heads that direction...but everything I've heard is that BU would land in Big East at the very least. We'll see... MattJ's twitter suggested TCU might regret heading to Big East because they may lose BCS status....really? because they lost football powerhouses in Syracuse and Pitt? TCU is a better football program than either one of those. Let me know the next time Syracuse and Pitt play in a BCS game. Pitt has a nice history and played in the Fiesta Bowl back in 04...but I don't think that kills the Big East's BCS status...am I wrong?
