Christian persecution in THIS country. I am well aware of the situation in Mali where Christians are being persecuted (and other places). My comment was towards the "Christmas is under attack" crowd you find in the USA.

Church or ekklesia or "called out assembly"

Jesus was a rabbi. He would often teach in the synagogues hoping his people would receive Him as messiah. Paul also would teach in the synagogue frequently when he came to a new town. Jesus though mainly spent time with the twelve and taught them and then took them for times of application where they would serve the people. A synagogue or temple is just an easy place to speak spiritual things with people, because you have an open audience there.

A church is not a building, but a group of called out people.

Christ found the church, not Peter. The church is not built on a man but the God man Christ. Saul didn't adopt the name Paul when he became a Christian. It wasn't until on his missionary journey and their audience was more Greek speaking. Paul is just Saul in Greek. He was always still Saul in Hebrew, but as the Apostle to the Gentiles he became widely known as Paul.

The type of Christianity your refer to as Pauline Christianity was only the teachings of Christ. This type of Christianity has been around since the time of Christ and has remained till this day, even when they were small in numbers.

The teachings that later became roman catholicism began as false teachings of infant baptism and worship of mary in some of the churches at the time of the early church fathers. They separated from Christ's original teachings formally near in the fourth century.

I am referring to the teachings of the Catholic Church as not biblical. I am not referring to specific people. What they believe is between them and their Lord.

Well, you never specified. That's on you. As a person who knows many Christians, and one my self, I understand where they come from. Its not the issue of Christmas being under attack, its our whole belief system that is under attack. Taking Christ out of Christmas is one example of that. I am just tired of the double standards in this country. When one says "that's gay" or "your queer", it is taken as offensive, when gay really means happy and queer really means strange. But I hear people say "Jesus Christ!" I ask them kindly "Hey can you not say that? That's offensive to me?" They look at me and tell me Jesus isn't real so it doesn't matter. Believe me, Christianity IS under attack. Its been that way since the Birth of Jesus.

Stop it. You are embarrassing yourself. You do realize that Pauline Christianity, which became the Catholic Church, was the ONLY form of Christianity for roughly 1400 years, right?

No sir. Read up on anabaptists. And many other groups who even predate Catholicism. Was Catholicism most prevalent during that time period, yes I agree. But it was not the only form and it definitely wasn't the earliest. And it it surely wasn't Pauline. Show me anywhere Paul teaches to baptize infants or pray through Mary, or give the church indulgences.

I refer you to my discussion of Peter, Pauline Christianity and the Roman Empire.

Whatever. Sorry I didn't specify completely what country I was talking about on an American forum in a thread about Texas A&M University.

Your perceived "attack" on your religion (in the USA) is completely and totally manufactured in your own head. I used to say 'merry Christmas!' as my go to holiday greeting, but because I have heard so much nonsense about Christians being under attack and afraid to say 'Christmas,' I have decided to ban that word for the rest of my life.

"Happy holidays!" is what I'll say from now on.

    and

"That's a beautiful holiday tree you have there!"

And for the record, in Mali, the Christians are on a long list of people being persecuted by Islamic militants, which includes some Muslims. Their persecution is not unique, although it is very real. Anyone dealing with Taliban style aholes that are in charge is persecuted.

Yes, and your assertion that Catholics don't follow the Bible is among the most absurd and ignorant things I have read on this forum in quite some time.

What about using our Lord's name in vain? I don't mind if you ban the use of Christmas as long as you keep His name out of cursing. Please and thank you.

While you use the bible from time to time, you do not interpret it by scripture and history but mainly through the eyes of your church's history.

I cannot commit to that, but I'll give it a try.

Can you please keep Him out of our policy? Please and thank you.

There are more than religious reasons for some of the policy you are referring to.

If "from time to time" means three to four readings from the Bible in an average a catholic mass, then sure. You should probably stop opining on faiths that you obviously know nothing about.

I have been respectful up until the point that you started attacking the Catholic Church. I now see that you are one of these "Catholics aren't Christians" nut jobs I had to deal with when I was in college. Your rhetoric hasn't changed in 20 years.

The teachings of Catholicism are not true Christianity. Can catholics be Christians, yes of course.

Mormons read from the bible much more than Catholics do, does that make the Christians?

Do you believe that baptism or the lords supper has any saving grace?

Baptism is a Catholic sacrament for the forgiveness of original sin. It is done in every Catholic parish on the planet. The fact that you would even ask that shows that you know nothing of the Catholic faith.

You have given your backwards, incorrect and ignorant opinion of my faith. I am not going to engage you in a discussion to try to change your mind, because it is fruitless.

I further am not going to engage in this exchange because I am about to stop being respectful, and I am not going to be dragged down that road.

    Have a nice day.

Didn't the student body president veto this school bill?
