Makes some football sense, Mathews can get better at the position he'd be asked to play in the NFL but it probably wont help his draft stock much. Hopefully his dad can join him and his brother.
I figured this would be the case with Matthews for a couple reasons ... 1) He is not in dire need of money like many athletes 2) He really wants to play with his brother 3) He is "The Man" on the OL now, and he's got a real shot at the Outland Trophy 4) His dad has been telling him how your college years are the best football years of your life so I'm sure that had a big influence too
West Virginia QBs coach Jake Spavital named QBs coach & co-OC. Spavital was a grad. assistant at Houston in 2009 with Sumlin.
Yeah, lots of good reasons for him to stay but it's still almost a bad decision when you forfeit a year in the pros, especially when you're mid-to-late first round material. Good to have a steady stream of Aggies to the pros though, it's been awhile, but it looks like what? 4 years in a row that we have top 10 picks in the draft (assuming Mathews goes top 10 next year).
I'm not sure I've heard or seen any insightful commentary on where he might project if he continues to improve. He's got to be way shorter than he's listed at but Wilson might be making height a non-factor. Especially when Manziel is even more shifty in the pocket. Manziel is like Mathews though, if he goes to the NFL what's he gonna do with the money, go sit courtside at NBA games? Hangout with Lebron? He's already doing that.
He probably needs to leave before he gets busted for violations. All these parties and traveling every where and going to exclusive clubs? I wonder what his parents do?
He's a completely different quarterback now than he was at the beginning of the year. He looks downfield, he's more patient, he hits receivers much earlier, he doesn't force as many passes, he's checking down to other options more often. He worked with that Whitfield guy during the offseason, I imagine he will continue to do so and continue to get better. He has plenty of room to improve and if he's not projecting as a top 2-4 QB taken I don't see him leaving early.
Lol, you serious dude?? It's been stated several times that his parents are independently wealthy. They are in Oil & Gas, and his uncle owns a textiles company. If the violations were that blatant, do you really think he'd risk his collegiate career?? The tickets were paid for by his family. The NCAA and Texas A&M already investigated, and cleared everything.
Yep. His transformation from that Florida game to what he is now has been a revelation. While he still hangs out in the pocket looking to run, and passes up too many open receivers for my liking, he has VASTLY improved in both areas. However, he strikes me as the kind of guy who isn't going to leave until he knows he's one of the top QBs getting taken in the draft. He doesn't need the money, he loves playing college football, and he knows he has a chance to contend for National Championships every year he stays at A&M. He has a ton of room to improve, and I think he's going to put in the time and work to get there.....in College Station.
I wonder how much that has to do with the incredible offensive line. Let the WR's run downfield, clear out defenders, let the o-line lockup the rushers, then just beat 1 or 2 guys to get into the 3rd level. There were times against OU where he was just sitting in the pocket in what almost looked like taunting. I expected him to gently sit the football down on the ground and begin dancing while the OU rushers fought for their lives. There are plays where there's just no one around. No one. The play in the spoiler, what you're seeing, probably could have gone on for 40 minutes, even after the linebackers begin pursuit. Spoiler

Texas A&M telling Johnny to be good -- http://www.usatoday.com/story/gameon/2013/01/14/texas-am-athletic-directors-meets-johnny-manziel-family/1833279/ Texas A&M athletics director Eric Hyman met with Johnny Manziel's parents to discuss their son's newfound fame, his recent brushes with gossip websites like TMZ.com and how he should deal with his growing responsibilities as a Heisman Trophy winner, reports Brent Zwerneman of the San Antonio Express-News. WHAT?: Manziel will be great if A&M can "keep him out of jail," says Oklahoma coach "It's (about) education, and we've got to help the family and Johnny with the transition into being a Heisman award winner," said Hyman. "There are things you have to learn, and we have to help him with that." Said Hyman, "That's a special fraternity, but you also have to understand (Manziel) is 20 years old. It's a tremendous responsibility – but it is a responsibility." Meeting with the Manziels is probably a good move, considering that Johnny Football's profile will only grow over his next two or three seasons as the face of college football. For example, Hyman might have intimated that it's not a good idea for Manziel to tweet a photo of himself at a casino flashing a wad of bills, as he did this month. CASINO: Manziel flashes a wad of bills at an Oklahoma casino As an aside, Zwerneman asked an NCAA spokesman about the photo, who replied, "NCAA rules state that you cannot gamble on sports, but that's the extent of it." Basically, Manziel hasn't broken any rules since last summer, when he was arrested for fighting, failing to identify himself and possessing two fake IDs. That's probably something worth pointing out. The basic principle – call it the Joe Kane Rule, after the starting quarterback in The Program: When your level of fame reaches a certain point (as Manziel's has over the last four months), you must be extremely wary of doing anything that might compromise your standing. Kane had his motorcycle privileges revoked; Manziel might have his casino and nightclub privileges revoked. "He is a 'Heisman.' "
Miller, Tannehill, Joekel/Moore, Mathews, Evans/Manziel? Could we have 5 years straight with top ten picks?
I think that's dependent on how Manziel develops. With Marcus Mariota (who I think will be the first QB taken) and Braxton Miller both set to come out in the same year, Manziel might be the third QB taken. Honestly though, none of that really matters. If he continues to develop, and improves on the things that he needs to, he has a chance to be a dynamic pro at the next level. How cool would it be to get an assembly line of QBs going to the NFL? We already have it for pass rushers.....I'm psyched to get one going for the O-Line too.
