The defensive coordinator has to go - almost never gets his guys in the appropriate plays or position. Well, guess it would helpful if they could make a tackle.
Yup, same ol' **** from the D each week. Terrible. Hate to blame Snyder as the fall man (I put more of it on Sumlin) but someone gotta take the fall. (And I'm beginning to laugh at the "HIRE SUMLIN!" people (re:NFL/Texans). Thought it wasn't the best idea to start with, sure ain't gonna convince me.)
Sumlin had the same defensive issues (put more specifically, a total lack of defense) at UH as well. Watch him try to leave after Johnny leaves -- he did the same thing when Keenum left UH. Leave when the gettin's good
I agree, this is the same stuff we saw (defensively) at UH. Defense is terrible, to say the least. So you think he'll leave after the season? I think Johnny is most likely gone.
Manziel is a miracle worker, but it takes more than four or five miracles to compensate for NO DEFENSE. This does bring back memories of Sumlin's tenure at UH. I hate the "outscoring" approach; great defense is a thing of beauty. Didn't see any on the A&M side.
Auburn fan here... Just want to say great game, Manziel is one of the greatest college players of all time, and Mike Evans is unreal. Awesome game. I was at the game and Kyle Field was just crazy.
FSU >> Clemson (Who gets exposed as a pretender) Jameis Winston > Tajh Boyd (long ball, short ball, medium ball, poise, consistency) Oregon is now wearing their feminine pink.
the last 2 Sherman recruiting classes really f***ed us on defense. We are extremely short on talent on that side of the ball. Baggs and Ward were supposed to help but never panned out. Richardson's injury and and Polo's death (RIP) didn't help either. With that said, there is absolutely no excuse for us to be ranked in the bottom 20 teams in FBS defensively. I don't care if we trot out an all-freshman defensive line up. I supported Mark Snyder after last year but it is becoming apparent that he has got to go. It appears that the relative defensive success we enjoyed last year under Snyder was more of a result of DeRuyter's development of guys like Porter, J-Stew, Nealy, and Moore. I'm officially on the fire Mark Snyder bandwagon. And while we're at it, I know it's difficult to criticize an offense that puts up 40+ points game in game out, but McKinney has been absolute #h!t in play calling. That last series was a disaster, not to mention our failure to go up tempo as fast we did last year and the various mind boggling decisions he's made (running from the pistol on 4th and inches last game comes to mind). We are really missing KK here. All in all, what a crappy Saturday evening. We got a lot of help from other teams losing. Had we gotten the win today we would've had 3 weeks to figure something out defensively and pray for the young guys to miraculously figure it out, and who knows, with a couple bounces in the last 2 games of the season against LSU and Mizzou we could be talking MNC come December. Sucks that we removed ourselves from that conversation by losing in this fashion today. Really heartbreaking.
DeVante is a freaking grade A pu$$y, and so is H. Mathews and everyone on the O-line. Outside of Deshazor, who also got burnt today, I don't think a single one of our defensive players is a Division 1 starter. Claiborn has shown some flashes here and there, and Obioha is alright, but other than that, we might as well hold trot out walk-ons.
Why wouldn't one leave when the "gettin's" is good? A nice contract usually follows a good year, anyway. And as a head coach, you obviously know how good / bad the team will be next year, should key players declare for the draft.
Who knows what coaches want. Saban left for the NFL then went right back to college. Sumlin has 0 experience working in the NFL. I don't know if he could just come in and coach within a completely different atmosphere and infrastructure. He left UH bc it's not a big program. It's just a stepping stone. He has a good deal now.
