my point is that it happens ever year with every canidate. This isn;t new and it isn;t because its Obama.
If JFK never was president no one would care what his race/religion was.

Consider that the Clintons (including Hillary) occupied a somewhat scandalous two terms in the White House which makes them enemy #1 for the GOP and target #1 for the media. That's the way things work. I agree what Bush and the right-wing did to McCain in 2000 was pretty bad, but oh well.

This election, it looks like some people are tired of mudslinging. Romney was roasted and toasted when he went after McCain and Huckabee in Iowa. In fact, McCain, Huckabee and Rudy were all fairly nice to each other while they all vilified Romney.

The Dem contest was fairly mild until Hillary came in 3rd place in Iowa. She was on her way to getting trounced in NH before "finding her voice" with the tears. What ticked people off was how Bill went after Obama instead of Hillary. Understandably, it made her look very small and backfired in her face.

This election, Willie Horton, the ACLU, Swift Boating, and that sort of campaigning will be called out immediately and the risk of resorting to it may be equal to or greater than the benefit. Just ask Romney and Hillary. I expect during the general election all kinds of stuff will be thrown at Obama by the GOP and the media. The media needs time to do it's dirty work but I promise you every stone will be unturned. Too many careers are made by getting big scoops and a bunch of good investigative reporters out there want to make their careers at Obama's expense.

because the key difference in calling people racist and feeling that the insult is totally racially motivated and understanding the insult is politically motivated.
