So, did whatever happen to your grandparents happen as a result of their skin color? Was the action institutionalized? Was their humanity degraded with the approval of the larger society? Were they denied opportunities because of how they looked? Did their kids pay for this thing that happened by not having access to quality education and health care? Did your grandparents live in a constant state of fear that the thing might happen again?
