Yes. Pretty much any flight under 500 miles is a policy failure.

This thing still makes no sense.

Tickets won't be cheap. In 2015 they have a vague estimate of $108 one way. In 2021 they said they were "more or less 75% of airfare prices". It won't be close for many people to get to the train station over by old Northwest Mall. The Dallas station at least makes some sense. There are private jet companies like JSX that offer roughly the same price as regular airline tickets and use the private terminals so you only need to show up like 20-30 min before your flight.

I don't really see the market for this. I know the bus isn't the best but it's only $50-$60 round trip and about 4 hours with many more pick up locations.

All this doesn't even go into how financing costs have skyrocketed with rates spiking.

I've found Euro train much more efficient than flying through Euro airports. I can just jump on a Eurostar 20 minutes before an international departure. Minimal security other than luggage checks. The whole ordeal of flying through airports anywhere in the world, I would pay a premium to avoid. Trains rarely incur travel delays and also minimal queues at the station.

Yeah but it costs like $8 to get from Tokyo to Kyoto and our train has a floor cost of $100+ apparently. And Japanese stuff works, doesn't break, American stuff is gonna break (lulz) or be imported from China (and break). GOOD LUCK

It’s nowhere near that cheap. It’s $266 round trip from Tokyo to Kyoto on the bullet train.

I think there are other issues to take into consideration, as well. Like, how long will the wait be for the train? Do I have to show up 1 or 2 hours early or can I just show up and hop on? The airport is a hassle a lot of the time. Is the seating better?

I'd pay the same just to be able to get onboard within a few minutes, have better seating, and be where I want to be in 90 minutes rather than take an extra couple of hours for a 1-hour'ish flight. Of course, I'm the goof who enjoys stopping at Buc-ee's or Collin Street Bakery on the way, so yeah, I'll probably just drive anyway.

The train itself is Japanese-built while the train system was going to be developed and run by Renfe (Spain).

I don’t remember how much it cost but took a few high speed trains in the PRC. They were great. Very smooth and much easier to deal with than going to airports.

Best thing is I was jammed in a middle seat on the flight back from Houston to Minneapolis this morning. The trains are much roomier and easier to get up and move around than in a plane.

I'll believe it when i see it.

On track: A bullet train from Las Vegas to Los Angeles by 2027
A green bullet train capable of touching 200 miles per hour
    [IMG]

An agreement has been reached to commence works on the United States' first high-speed rail network, Brightline West, connecting two busiest U.S. cities - Las Vegas and Los Angeles. The total length of the project is estimated to cross 218 miles (350 kilometers), and the system will be run on electric energy. The 218-mile high-speed network will cost $10bn.

Brightline West hopes to break ground for the project this year and estimates to finish all necessary work in the next four years. Brightline West network will have stations near the iconic Las Vegas Strip, Rancho Cucamonga, Apple Valley, and Hesperia, California.

The company is the only private provider of modern, eco-friendly, intercity passenger rail service in America. It currently serves Miami, Aventura, Fort Lauderdale, Boca Raton, and West Palm Beach in Florida, with its Orlando station beginning service in 2023.

Meanwhile, the latest report from the California High-Speed Rail Authority projects costs for the initial segment at $35 billion, which exceeds secured funding by $10 billion. Other segments of the system are likely to have their projected costs increase, too. The state hopes it will get more federal aid. The current speaker of the House, Kevin McCarthy, from Bakersfield, CA, has often referred to the rail projects as boondoggles

Actually, I would think that the Las Vegas casinos would have a vested interest in making that train happen. I think that, of all the bullet train propositions we've seen, that one probably has the best chance of coming to fruition.... and I suspect the price of a ticket would be very low. This opens up the second-largest market in the United States to a variety of easy gambling. I predict this will happen... on time and on budget.

Plus, once you get out of the LA area, you have open and favorable ground for high speed tracks. Even hitting the LV airport would be relatively easy coming from the SW.

Well, they already screwed up the LA-to-SF bullet train, maybe they can screw this one up, too. lol.

that has been the generally accepted narrative since the 1980s.

2 generations later, still no bullet train
