I'll go ahead and give my top 10 for now. 1. SD - Eli Manning, QB 2. OAK - Larry Fitzgerald, WR 3. ARZ - Ben Roethlisbeger, QB 4. NYG - Robert Gallery, OT 5. JAX - Roy Williams, WR 6. WAS - Stephen Jackson, HB 7. CLE - Shawn Andrews, OT 8. DET - Sean Taylor, S 9. ATL - Reggie Williams, WR 10. HOU - Tommie Harris, DT
Hmmm... Let's look at the needs of each team. I'm no Mel Kiper (i.e. asshat), so feel free to help me out here (ahem... Ric). Positions are in order of necessity. 1. SD - OL, QB, WR 2. OAK - WR, DL, QB (although rumor has it that all the old-timers want to return) 3. ARZ - QB, DL, DB, WR, RB (yep, pretty much everything) 4. NYG - OL, DB, WR, QB 5. JAX - WR, OL, DB, DL 6. WAS - RB, DL, OL, DB - if Champ leaves... 7. CLE - DL, QB, OL, WR(?) 8. DET - WR, DB, RB, DL 9. ATL - DB, DL, WR 10. HOU - DL, DB, OL, QB (I keed... I keed...)
i would probably go: DL, OL, S, OLB, ILB, CB. wright and faggins, even vaughn proved adequate, with potential. faggins, specifically, intrigues. unquestionably, the defense needs a playmaker, or two... three. i don't see how in the world, if he falls to them, they could pass up sean taylor. i'd love to see them move wong inside and find at least one edge rusher who can get to the QB with consistency to replace him. the d-line, obviously, needs help - they have depth, but no talent. and the o-line, bless its heart, could use an upgrade. if a franchise LT fell into their laps, allowing them to move pitts inside, where i think he could dominate, larry allen-like, for years... that would instantly make this a better team. on the right track, but still a lot to do... should be a fun offseason.
I personally think we need a pass-rushing outside linebacker-type the most. The 3/4 doesn't work if you can't get pressure on the QB and it's built to make Pro Bowlers out of outside LB's. Think how much better our defense would have been this year with a pass rush. That said, if Sean Taylor is there I'd take him.
If Lary Fitzgerald goes to oakland, and Tim Bown and Jerry Rice stay, which they said they wanted to do if the orginization wants theme back, imagine the things he would learn from theme. wow what a great start for your career.
The 3-4 is all about speed and getting to the ball as quick as possible, diregarding brute strength for pure quickness, Some NFL teams could do better to run the 3-4. i.e. Pittsburgh when they had Levon Kirkland. I have seen the ****tiest attempts at tackling this season from just about every team, NFL defenses are getting faster and faster and less able to muscle their opponent's offense into submission. Personally I don't care if the Raiders take Fitzgerald, either of the top QBs or even Gallery, whatever we can get to pay off for this miserable excuse of a football campaign.
Moe, FYI: A co-worker of mine (and die-hard Raiders fan) wrote in to Mel Kiper (Sir Asshat) today about asked about the #2 pick. (Kiper actually responded.) Seems Kiper believes that if Eli Manning is still around at #2, Al Davis might make a big splash and grab him.
How do they determine 2nd round draft choices? I don't think its fair that strength of schedule is such a determining factor between 5 spots, especially in every round.
Manning wouldn't be a bad pick. Texans have no 2nd round pick because they used the Raiders 2nd rounder to select Tony Hollings in the Supplemental draft. Of course they could trade Drew Henson for a possible 2nd rounder, or a 1st if you are really optimistic.
Well quite apparently one Bill Callahan did, and made sure of it. No team that goes to the Super Bowl one year can suck so bad unless someone isn't trying.
Yeah I agree with you on that. I just can't see Hollings being more than a kick returner in the nfl. He had great speed but his halfback vision sucks. A guy like Rashaun Woods or Nathan Vasher could be there if we would have kept the pick.
Losing Gannon couldn't have helped, even though he was not playing up to the standards he set the year before when he went down with injury. I think about the 1994 Oilers who went 2-14 with largely the same team that went 12-4 the year before. One of the subtractions just happened to be a very key player. And it ended up turning the #3 offense into the #22 offense (and dead last in points scored).
