If you draft Young, your team will probably struggle again (which it will do anyway next year) then you can get Adrian Peterson next year who'll probably come out if he has a strong year.
this is more like the Jordan and Hakeem draft. with lienart being Bowie. hehehe. no seriously, its like Jordan and Hakeem, and the traditional logic is you build around a qb, just like you build around a center, and this time again the center has hometown roots and just like the Rockets they already had someone in Hakeem's postion, except obviously you can't keep both of them.
I went with Young/DD, only because I hate Carr. Casserly thinks Carr was taught poorly. My own eyes show that, pressure or no pressure, he is not a great decision maker. Carr and DD are both average players, imo. But I think Carr is more average, especially for the money. Combos aside, I think the VY/Bush argument is close, though. Can Bush be the next LT?
we should draft v. young, and then trade carr to the dolphins for ricky williams or their first round pick. the dolphins have a ****ty qb, and they need an experienced player at that position. carr would be the most logical player for them to get for their position in the draft. they have two solid running backs and need to do something with them. if we can get their draft pick we can get a running back/offensive lineman/defensive player/ running back... options are limitless...
This is one of the more reasonable proposals I've heard, unless the Dolphins would rather have Jay Cutler from Vanderbilt.
I can't believe I just read that. Seriously fellas you need to step away from the hype machine. Comparing anyone but Brady to Joe Montana, John Elway, or Roger Staubach is crazy.
At the collegiate level, he has now accomplished as much/more than all those guys. I agree with the original post though. I knew - I mean, I physically actually KNEW that when he got the ball back on Wednesday night with 2 minutes to go, he was going to score a touchdown and win the national championship. He would simply not have it any other way. Pete Carroll realized it too. Vince's team knew it. That is a rare, rare quality, and being able to do it and shine on arguably the biggest stage in the history of college football against one of the great teams of all time - well, it DOES merit comparisons to the other greats.
ALL LEGENDS BEGIN THEIR CAREERS SOMEWHERE AND SOMEHOW.......NOBODY HAS DONE WHAT VY HAS AT THAT MAGNITUDE. NOBODY. AND FOR YOU TO EVEN THINK ABOUT COMPARING WHAT VY DID TO SOME LUCKY HEAVE THAT FLUTIE MADE, WARRANTS A LIFETIME BAN FROM THIS OR ANY OTHER SERIOUS SPORTSTALK WEBSITE.
I like the previously mentioned ideas of trading Carr, plus whatever it takes, to get the Saints pick at #2. Young and Bush! This is by far the best option!
The amount of homerism and 24 hour radical decision changes based on 1 game in this forum is absolutely ridiculous. I like Young, that comeback was amazing, but be serious. He ran over USC's defense. That was the sorriest tackling I've seen in a long time. Young really didn't do anything spectacular in the air. Plenty of wide open receivers at short to mid distances. Yes Bush looked mortal, but he still racked up 170 offensive yards. He's a guy that can be plugged in immediately and will make plays, bulking up a la LT over his first few years. I for one think we should just see what happens and ENJOY it either way. Both are going to be stars in the league, and both would help the team. I'm not ready to give up on David Carr, but if the team feels Vince is the best choice, so be it.
BUSH is amazing. and even though he did not rack up 500 yards in total offense, he still looked liked a badass on a few of his runs. he is a gamebreaker, and I would love to see him in a Texans uniform making his highlight reel runs. that being said...the man wears "619" under his eyes, and he should because he loves Diego and SOCAL altogether. He would no doubt be a star on the Texans, but would he embrace the role as the MAN IN HOUSTON? I am not sure that he would stick with us through thick and thin, if he always has San Diego on his mind. VY on the other hand has stated that "he was born to be QB of the horns". he is from houston, and wouldnt rather play any where else. you know what you are getting in terms of loyalty with VY. you know what you are getting in terms of leadership with VY. and after that amazing performance, winning a seemingly unwinnable game, knocking off a seemingly unbeatable opponent, you now know what you are getting in terms of superstar with VY. VY took immortality away from USC. who can say that......FLUTIE, I DONT THINK SO!
I think it is very funny how Bush to some is the greatest since Barry Sanders, and to others is not good enough to carry it more than 10 -15 times a game and thus not worth the pick. And to some Vince Young is a better Michael Vick, and to other Doug Flutie of all people. We are splitting hairs here people. There is no wrong decision. This is a very similar situation to the draft that had Michael Vick and Ladanian Tomlinson. Even knowing what we know now about them, which would you take? They are both game breakers. I think it will be the same for Bush and Young. Both will be great, but we can only have one. I think both would have a pretty equal impact on our team, both will be superstars. I personally would like Vince Young simply because he is hometown. He is a longhorn and I think it would be cool for him to play for us. Does that mean Reggie sucks...of course not. In the end, no matter what happens, I think this pick will upgrade our team and we should all just enjoy it.
Now ... this is the one thing that Vince gets ragged on about. Fact of the matter is despite all the criticisms about his throwing motions and how he's going to be a run first quarterback etc, he was actually the most accurate passer in all of college football last year. He was more efficient than Matt Leinart, who is being hailed as a "natural pocket passer" who will transition more easily into the NFL. He was even more efficient than the famed Brady Quinn. His passer abilities are seriously underrated IMO. That said, I still lean towards Bush just because it's exciting to think what we could do with a Carr/Davis/Bush combo. Make Davis do the hard work inside, and let Bush run all over the outside routes creating havoc for defenses, or catching passes. Plus the nightmare special teams would face having to choose between Jerome Mathis and Reggie Bush to kick to. I feel we're just more versatile and capable offensively with Reggie Bush than with Vince Young. Either way, whether we choose Bush or Young, it's a win-win situation for us, bottom line.
